James L. Claxton, 85 of rural Flat Rock, IL, died at 2:45 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center in Robinson. He was born September 2, 1921 in Dawson Springs, KY, the son of William H. Claxton and Pearl Chapman Claxton.

He was a plumber with the Jefferson County School system in Colorado. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a Lifetime Member of the Dawson Springs, KY V. F. W.; a member of the Dawson Springs Masonic Lodge; and a member of the Dawson Springs Presbyterian Church.

James married Iris Foster DisPennett on September 15, 1986 and she survives. He is also survived by 3 step daughters and their spouses; Debi and Olen Evans, Brownstown, IL, Joni and Charles Rich, Flat Rock, Patty and Steve Mitchell, Palestine; 2 step sons and their wives, Michael and Kelly DisPennett, Oblong, Ralph and Margo DisPennett, Salem, OR; 11 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren;his brother and sister-in-law, Garnet and Ruth Claxton, Arvada, CO; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Zona and Charles Sherman, St. Charles, MO, and Virginia Duncan, Princeton, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 5 brothers, and his step granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Dr. Olen Evans is in charge of services. Burial is in the Hardinville Cemetery, rural Hardinville, IL. Visitation is at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to ll:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation with envelopes at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Robinson V. F. W.
