Charles Frederick Alumbaugh, 88, of Oblong, IL, died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at his residence. He was born September 6, 1916 in Carlisle, IN, the son of Frederick Carl Alumbaugh and Nellie Fay Pirtle Alumbaugh. He was office manager at the Pottery from 1935-1954. He owned the Cream Pitcher restaurant from 1954-1973 where the specialties were homemade ice cream and bar-b-que. He worked as a carpenter after selling the Cream Pitcher. He was a member of the Oak Glen Golf Course and the Chauncey Church of God. He was a Robinson Alderman from 1977-1981. He taught Sunday School, led the singing and was treasurer at the Robinson Church of God and at the Chauncey Church of God. He moved to Robinson when he was in the third grade and shined shoes at the Whitmer, Judge, and Shaw Barber Shop while in high school.
He married Fern Woodworth October 10, 1937 and she preceded him in death March 5, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Carolyn Alumbaugh; his granddaughter, Emily Bline; his brother, Robert Alumbaugh; and his brother-in-law, Paul Milligan.
He married Betty Hall Warford on March 13, 1994 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Lee Bline, Annapolis; 2 grandchildren and their spouses, Tamara and Chad Tuttle, Bakersfield, CA, and Terry and Erin Bline, Roanoke, IL; 3 great grandchildren, Lauren, Allison, and Jarrett Bline; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester and Patty Alumbaugh, Vienna, VA, Paul and Sandra Alumbaugh, Robinson, and James and Linda Alumbaugh, Burleson, TX; 2 sisters, Ruth Milligan, Detroit, MI, and Mary Brown, Lynchburg, VA; 1 sister-in-law, Mabel Alumbaugh, Palestine; and his step-daughter and her husband, Jolly and James Piersall, Indianapolis, IN; his step-granddaughters, Mica and Hannah, Indianapolis, IN; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Pastor Duane Sovdi officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 10th from 5-7 p.m. and until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
