Following is one of the Biographies and Stories which where gathered by Charles Sumner McKamy in the 1950s for publication in a Crawford County History Book. Unfortunately he passed away before the book was published.
Son of Dr. Theodore N. Rafferty, born September 19, 1878 in Palestine, Illinois and came to Robinson with my father's family in 1883, educated in Robinson High School graduating in the class of 1895 after which I attended Medical College of Indiana (now Medical Department of Indiana University) and the Medical College of Philadelphia, after which I had a years' internship in Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville, Pa.
I located permanently in Robinson with my father for the practice of his profession. On May 28, 1901, I was married to Miss Bess Alexander of Robinson, and to this union were born five children, viz: Keen A., H. Burns, Sarah, T. Newell and Charles C. I had one brother, Glenn A., born February 28, 1880, who practiced dentistry in Robinson for thirty-five years, departing this life in December 1945, and I have a sister, Mrs. Pearl R. Ledbetter, now living at Clearwater Beach, Florida.
In 1916 I entered into partnership with Doctors Price and Carlisle and Lowe, which group built the Robinson Hospital and Physicians Offices, located across the street from the Elks Home in Robinson, which partnership continued until Doctors C.E. Price and Jonas W. Carlisle were compelled to withdraw on account of their health after which his association with Dr. Lowe persisted until his retirement in 1946.
I had served as President and Secretary of the Crawford County Medical Society, Secretary of the Aesculapian Society of the Wabash Valley for twenty years and President for one year, Local Surgeon for the Illinois Central Railroad for 27 years, President of the Robinson Rotary Club and President of the Crawford County Country Club, and since going to Sebring, Florida, has served as President of its Rotary Club.
Since childhood, I have been an active member, with my wife, of the Presbyterian Church of Robinson.
