Following is one of the Biographies and Stories which where gathered by Charles Sumner McKamy in the 1950s for publication in a Crawford County History Book. Unfortunately he passed away before the book was published.

Courts Edward Ferris, son of Edward William Ferris and Effie Corylee (Wolfe) Ferris, was born at Paris, Illinois, lived there and in Olney until coming to Robinson at the age of five. Attended the South Side Grade School, now known as the Lincoln Grade School in Robinson, the Robinson Township High School, graduating in 1931, the University of Illinois, and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1935 with a Bachelor of Journalism Degree. Attended graduate school at the University of Missouri and also George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Employed in the periodical division in the Library of Congress and also as managing editor of Counterviews Magazine, both in Washington. In Washington in 1937, married Ruth Elizabeth Myers, daughter of Eugene William Myers and the late Neda Rhea (Settlemoir) Myers, all of Robinson.

The Ferrises moved to Altamont, Illinois where they owned and published the Altamont News from 1938 to 1947 and during that time purchased the Altamont Herald and combined it with the News. Later also started and published the St. Elmo News at St. Elmo, Illinois, during this time.

Charter member and officer in the Altamont Lions Club, member and officer in Altamont Lodge A.F.&A.M., President Altamont Library Board, Director Altamont Chamber of Commerce, member United States Civil Defense Corps.

Charter member Robinson Lions Club 1950, Secretary 1951-52, President 1955-56. Zone Chairman District 1E, Lions International 1956-57. Member Robinson Lodge #250 A.F.&A.M., Secretary 1948 and 1949. Member Eastern Star Katherine Chapter. Member Robinson Junior Chamber of Commerce 1951; Member First Christian Church of Robinson; Public Information Officer Crawford County Civil Defense, 1956; member Ground Observer Corps.

Newspapers include Daily Illini, Columbia Missourian, Missouri Student, News N' Everything, Oblong Oracle, Palestine Register, Casey Daily Banner, Robinson Argus.
