Following is one of the Biographies and Stories which where gathered by Charles Sumner McKamy in the 1950s for publication in a Crawford County History Book. Unfortunately he passed away before the book was published.

In April 1948, Dr. Charles Henry Voorheis passed away at the age of 83 after giving a lifetime of service to our community.

He taught school a few years -- attended Rush Medical College in Chicago, graduating in March 1893.

April 1, 1893 Dr. Voorheis entered the office of Dr. Eaton and served the community faithfully for the next 55 years.

Doc Voorheis was active in many civic and religious organizations. He was president of the combined Grade and High School board during the construction of the present grade school building. The erection of the new Gym at the High School was also during the several years that he was on that board.

Dr. Voorheis was active in the Crawford County Medical Society. In April 1943, over 300 residents of the community paid tribute to him and rejoiced when he received a certificate of membership in the 50 Year Club and a gold membership button. The presentation was made by Dr. Andy Hall of Mt. Vernon, Ill., chairman of the Illinois 50 Year Club. The Crawford County Medical Society co-operated in the ceremony as they paid tribute to him for his 50 years of medical service. There are only about 20 physicians that were ever accorded this honor.

The finest tribute that can be paid to Dr. Voorheis is to say that: "He went about doing good".
