Aaron Ball was born July 17, 1774, probably at hanover in Morris County. He was the only child of Daniel Ball and Eleanor Lindsley. Daniel died in October, 1782, probably in ther Revolutionary War. Eleanor was the daughter of Ebenezer Lindsley and Eleanor Harrison and the granddaughter of Ebenezer Linsley Sr. who had left his home in Branford, Connecticut, to settle early in Orange, Essex County, New Jersey.
Aaron Ball was married march 11, 1799, in New Jersey to Elizabeth Voorheis, daughter of Cornelius Voorheis and Polly Cooper of Whippany, Morris County, N.J. Elizabeth was born in Whippany, May 22, 1781, and died near Hutsonville, Illinois, September 24, 1832. She is buried in the York, Illinois cemetery. Her brother, Mahlon Voorheis (1797-1848) also came to Crawford Count and is the ancestor of those in the county who bear that name. Their father, Cornelius Voorheis (1755-1836) was a direct descendant of Steven Coerte Van Voorhees, who came from Hees, Drenthe, Netherlands to Flatlands, Kings County, New York about 1670.
Aaron Ball came to Crawford County about 1818 and was listed as a resident on April 19, 1818. He was chosen a County Commissioner in 1820 and served with David Stewart and Henry M. Gilharn. He served again in 1821 with Stewart and Edward N. Cullom. Aaron Ball died near Hutsonville, Illinois, January 8, 1849. He and Elizabeth had four sons born at Hanover, Morris County, New Jersey:
- Edward Voorheis Ball, b. February 12, 1800. He was a physician and married Sarah Elizabeth Richardson (1810-1890). He raised a family and lived in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he died March 29, 1873. He and his wife and some children are buired in the Woodlawn cemetery in Terre Haute. They had daughters Frances Eleanor and Sarah Matilda and sons Richard L., a son called "Father" Ball on his tombstone, and probably others.
- Richard Montgomery Ball, b. September 5, 1801. He married Sarah _____ and died April 4, 1850 near Hutsonville and was buried in the Ball cemetery. They had children Charles H., Frances A., Electa F., Walter S., and Elizabeth F. Ball.
- John Milton Ball, b. April 4, 1804; d. December 8, 1885 and buried in the Ball cemetery. He was first married March 24, 1833 in Crawford County to Maria Bennett. He was married secondly, July 12, 1846 to nancy Ann (West) Haskett, widow of John Haskett (1800-1841). John had had sons George and William by his first wife and a daughter Maria L. (and possibly other children) by his second wife.
- Aaron Lindsley Ball, b. December 28, 1809. He was married on Christmas day, 1832 in Crawford County to Susan Bennett. In 1839 Aaron steered two flat boats from Crawford County to Natchez, Mississippi, for Wheeler Mallett of Hutsonville. He later became a physician and was still living in 1883, "in the west."
