Dr. Joseph H.
Mayfield, 79, of Nampa, died on Monday, Nov. 25, 1991, at a Nampa hospital.
Memorial Services
will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at
College
Church of the Nazarene, 504 Dewey Ave.
Dr. Bruce Petersen,
pastor of the church will officiate.
Private burial will
precede the services at the
Hillcrest Memorial Gardens,
Caldwell.
Services are under
the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel,
Nampa.
Dr. Joseph H.
Mayfield was born on Dec. 30, 1911, at Center,
Colorado, where he was reared and
educated. He
received his A.B. Degree from
Pasadena
College, his M.A. Degree from the University of Southern
California and did graduate work at
Columbia
University, Union Theological Seminary
and Claremont Graduate School.
Dr. Mayfield
received Honorary Doctorates from
Pasadena College
and Northwest Nazarene College.
He married
Hazel Siler on June 19, 1933, at
Pasadena, California. For
20 years he worked in various capacities at
Pasadena College, including professor, dean of
men, dean of students and vice president.
Dr. Mayfield joined
the staff at N.N.C. in 1960 where he served as professor
teaching Greek and religion, vice president for campus life,
director of special services and assistant to the president
for community relations. He
also served as acting president between the presidential
terms of Dr. John Riley and Dr. Kenneth Pearsall.
Dr. Mayfield is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Mayfield,
Nampa; a son-in-law, Richard and his
wife, Judy Sutherland Spokane WA; 4 grandchildren, Greg
Sutherland, Lynn Dee Emert and Rick and Tina Sutherland; 3
great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
