John McEnelly was born in Ireland in 1816. When eleven years of age he came with an uncle to the United States and stopped at Lynn, Mass., where he learned the shoemakers trade, and was married to Elvira B. Buel, born in New Hampshire in 1813. They afterwards moved to Vermont, where they lived until 1853, when they moved to Tamsville, Ohio, where they remain until 1862, when they came to Worth county and settled on section 32 in what is now Bristol township, where they lived until their death - Mr. McEnelly, May 7, 1871, and Mrs. McEnelly, March 22, 1883. The had a family of four children, three living - George A., Mary E., and Charles A. Mr. McEnelly was formerly a democrat but later a republican and held local offices. Mrs. McEnelly was a member of the Congregational Church
