Nathan Wise, a native of Bohemia, came into Union township in 1861 and settled on the northeast quarter of section 30. He erected a log house, of the primitive style of architecture common to the frontier, in which he dwelt until 1871, when he built a stone dwelling, in which he spent the remainder of his days.
