(From HISTORY OF MITCHELL AND WORTH COUNTIES, IOWA, 1883, Page 631)
Duncan McKercher was elected to this office (county treasurer) in October, 1865, and entered upon the official management of that position January, 1866, and was the first treasurer. He was re-elected in 1867, 1869 and 1871, having occupied the position some eight years, continuously. Mr. McKercher has been quite a prominent figure through all the history of the county. A cautious Scotchman, he has always managed to merit the approbation of his friends and neighbors, and his sterling honesty and noble integrity is evinced by the confidence his fellow citizens reposed in him.
