J.H. Bolton Clerk of the Circuit to Harrison and Sarah Martin Articles of adoption.
These articles of agreement, witnessed that whereas Minnie Weittson of the township of Woodbury, County of Woodbury, State of Iowa has abandoned her son Isaiah Weittson, and said son has become a charge of the superintendent of the Poor Farm of said county and is at this time a charge upon said county, and whereas the father of said child Isaiah Weittson.
??? therefore I J.H. Bolton Clerk of the Circuit Court for Woodbury County Iowa by virtue of the power in vested as provided in Sec.2308 of the code of Iowa have this day entere3d into the following agreement: vis:
I J.H. Bolton clerk as aforesaid of Woodbury County, Iowa party of the first part and Harrison B. Martin and Sarah E. Martin his wife parties of the second part residents of Woodbury County, Ia, , witnessed, that the said Harrison B. Martin and wife, hereby adopt as their own child Isaiah Weittson aforesaid born Oct, 16 1885 and the said second parties hereby confer upon said child all the rights and privileges that would pertain to any child, born unto them in lawful wedlock and it is further agreed that the name of said child hereafter shall be Isaiah Franklin Martin.
Adoption by the said second parties and I the said J.H. Bolton clerk as for said having the right ?? to do agree that the said child may be adopted by the said Harrison B. Martin and wife and I hereby give the said child unto the said Harrison B. Martin for the purpose of adoption by the party of the second parties.
Witness our hands this 12th day of February 1886.

Be it remembered that on this12th day of February A.D. 1886 personally appeared before me, Geo. W. Wakefield Judge of the Circuit Court for said County and State. J.H. Bolton Clerk of said Circuit Court and Harrison B. Martin, personally known to me to be the identical persons who signed the above agreement, and acknowledged the execution thereof to be their voluntary act and deed, for the purposes therein expressed in testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand this 12th day of Feburary 1886

poor-farm and poor-house, situated near Sergeant’s Bluff’, the reader
is referred to the “ Acts of the Board of Supervisors,” elsewhere.

In October, 1870, the board, which then consisted of William B.
Tredway, William P. Holman, William Mathers, Rufus Beal, Eli
Lee, F. W. Davis, L. Yokey and M. J. Rogers, investigated the poor
farm question, and finally purchased of W. Clark, for $1,150, the
northwest quarter of the northwest quarter of section thirty-three,
township eighty-eight, range forty-seven, situated a mile and one-quarter from Sergeant’s Bluff depot. On this land, which was all well
fenced, was a fair house, good outbuildings, and the whole was under a
good state of cultivation.

In July, 1871, an appropriation from the “ poor-farm fund” was
made to the amount of $175 to erect an addition to the poor-house.

At the January term, 1876, the following were seated as members:
James S. Horton, J. Follett, Ed. Haakinson, Norman Patterson and
P. C. Eberley. Their first official act was to appoint William P. Holman overseer of the poor-farm for 1876.
