I have tracked my long-lost grand-aunt/great-aunt from her birth in Parkston, South Dakota to Omaha, Neb where she married a Fred Ulrich in about 1916 and then to Sioux City in 1928. On April 30, 1928 Nettie shot and killed her husband and was found guilty of manslaughter and remanded to the Iowa Women's Reformatory at Rockwell City for a term of 8 years. She was released from the Reformatory on September 8, 1932 evidently on parole. There is no record of her until she reappears at her sister's funeral in Sioux City in 1952 and according to my grandmother's obituary was simply recorded as "survivors include...a sister from Cedar Rapids". I have exhausted all leads in the Cedar Rapids / Linn County area and conclude that Nettie must have returned to Sioux City upon her parole. Since parole records from that era were not kept, I'm interested in knowing if she appears in any of the Sioux City Directories between 1932 and 1952 and if so what her addresses were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was raised as an orphan and am trying to develop a family history for my children. Nettie was born Nettie Wenzel, married a Nathaniel Graumann March 6, 1910 in South Dakota, was divorced 1912 in Oklahoma and then married Fred Ulrich in Nebraska about 1916.

Looking for information and an obituary for my great-aunt, Nettie Wenzel Ullrich of Woodbury County. She was born in 1891 in probably Douglas or Minnehaha county in South Dakota to Benjamin Wenzel and Rose Baker. She came to Sioux City with her younger sister Emma in approximately 1910. Emma married my grandfather, Carl Chirstian Hogensen in 1916 and Nettie married a man named Ullrich. Folklore has it that Nettie shot Mr Ullrich and was confined to an Iowa Womens Penitentiary for some years. Evidently this episode was well publicized in the Sioux City newspapers of the time. She was alive and present at Emma's funeral in Moville, Iowa in 1952 and then had no further contact with any surviving family members. Can someone please help - both Nettie and Emma were well known in Sioux City.

I am looking for any information on my wife's grandmother AMANDA URBACH born in 1891 possibly in Sioux City, or her parents FRED/FREDRICK URBACK born in Germany, in 1864, died in or around Sioux City in 1940 or his wife MATILDA (maiden name unknown) also born in Germany in 1864, died in Sioux City in 1941. All three are buried near Trail City in Dewey county SD. I am looking for any URBACH connections, and would also be willing to share information with other researchers. Thanks.
