Charles Fred Oertel
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Anthon, with the Rev. Kody Killian officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Mr. Oertel was born Dec. 9, 1905, in Anthon, the son of John Fred and Agnes (Cornils) Oertel. He graduated from Anthon Public School in 1924. He married Velma Hayworth on Dec. 24, 1929, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Anthon, except for two years when they lived and worked in Sioux City. He was employed as a mechanic for various implement and truck dealers. He was employed as a custodian with Anthon Public School for 17 years. He retired in 1971. He was a member of Anthon Church of Christ and International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed baseball and playing bingo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Kelsheimer of Anthon; two sons and their wives, Tom and Joyce of Boydton, Va., and Charles Roger and Janice of Loveland, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, a daughter, a son-in-law, three grandsons and a great-granddaughter. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tim and Jon Kelsheimer, Danny Shon, and Lonnie and Chad Oertel.
