Submitter: Diane Land NELSON, William R.

I have an ancestor who we believe was married in Clarinda on Oct. 24, 1889. as per Clarinda Herald issue 30 Oct. 1889. (Would like copy of m. Certificate) The husbands name was William R. Nelson (b. 1865) and the spouse was 21 year old Miss Ella Mae Walton, (b. 1868) They had two children Irene (my grandmother) (now deceased) and Clyde LeRoy who died 05 Oct 1893, in infancy. We know little about William R. NELSON as he deserted the family soon after Clyde L. was born in 1892. As per Clarinda Herald article William R. NELSON who had m. Ella Walton; he disappeared 12 yrs ago; (1890?) she married in 1900 to the Rev David Honsaker; now (1902) news that Mr. Nelson went to Nettleton, Mo and m. 01 Dec 1898 to a dau of Moses Town; and on 22 Feb 1902 he disappeared from there. [Dated CH 11 Apr 1902]
My grandmothers pedigree and Ella Maes can be traced back to Thomas Barrett who came over from England in 1635, so you can see why we would love to clear up anything on William R. Nelson. My greatful thanks for your time and interest.

Submitter: Delsa in VA NICELY, David

Can any one help Me! One David Nicely received a land warrant of 80 acres for his service in the War of 1812 which he located on lands in Page County, IA. He apparently lived on this land until he died April 27, 1855. When we looked in the court house in Clarinda, Page County, there were no land records nor estate records for this David Nicely. Is it possible that these records could be in Taylor County?
In our documents regarding this bounty land, it states that the warrant was located at the land office in Hainsville, Iowa. We can't find this town either. Was this a town that was renamed?
Would there be an old newspaper available that would have an obituary for this David Nicely who died on April 27, 1855? Would the Genealogical Society in Shenandoah have any resources that might help us located this land and some record of the death and estate of this person?
Any help is appreciated. We're stumped!
Thanks, Delsa in VA Posted: 09 Aug. 1997, Received 16 Jul. 1997
