My PINKERTON Family Story!
 In the absence of absolute proof, or circumstantial evidence, both legally and genealogically, has been allowed in the following conclusions. And will be conceded to, when any other proof of the opposite is provided, which is logical and reasonable and not opposed by any other evidence... Paul R. Sarrett, June 25, 1989
     This "PINKERTON STORY" is very perplexed, with a lot of the children being named with the same given name, John, Samuel, Robert, etc.
  This writer has taken the liberty to place number 1, 2, etc., after the given name, based on the same name Robert,1; Robert,2 etc numbered by birth date 1st, 2nd etc, to give some type of order. ...prs

      "Cause of the emigration of the Ulster Scotts to the United States was Queen Anne reneged on William the III's promise of religious freedom to the Duietes? When Southern Irish went to the United States during the Potato Famine in 1840, it also stimulated emigration from the North. Read Ulster Sails West, by Reverend MARSHALL."

The following are some "random" Notes on the PINKERTON Name!
 The PINKERTON name is Norman in origin, being derived from the name of a little place in the "Department of Orne" called Pont Chardon (Thistle Bridge).

Some early PINKERTON's have been recorded from Scotland, of the old barony of PINKERTON near Dunbar, East Lothian. NICOL de PYNKERTONE of Haddingtonshire, Scotland, rendered homage in the year 1296. (See Source: Bain, II pg. 210 ..prs)

His seal shows a mastiff barking, a rose above, S' Nicolai de Princriton (ibid., pg. 544. ..prs)

PATRICK de PENKERTON had protection for a year in England in the year 1396 (ibid., IV, 484.)

The PINKERTON was not uncommon on the West Coast in the sixteenth century and earlier. The barony of PINKERTON was granted to the earl of Argyll in the year of 1483, on the forfeiture of Albany. The tenement of JOHN PINKERTON, in Glasgow, Scotland is mentioned in the year 1494 (See Source REF. 469. ..prs), and a resignation of property in favor of FELICIA PYNCARTOUN in Glasgow, Scotland is recorded in the year 1552 (See Source: Protocols, I. ..prs).

Recorded PYNCARTOUNE, 1533 and PINCARTOUNE, 1540, both of Glasgow, Scotland; JOHN PYNKERTOUN rendered to Exchequer the accounts of the bailes of Rutherglen, Scotland in the year 1559, and MALCOLM PINCARTOUN rendered the accounts of the same burgh in the year 1566 (See Source: ER, XIX, pg 89, 325).

PINKCARTOUNE, 1648;
PINKERTOUNE, 1668;

PINCARTONE, 1707; and

JOHN PINKERTON (1758-1826),
the historian, is the best known of the Scotland PINKERTON name all of Glasgow, Scotland. Click on Redball for More Info.<--- [REF: #41. pg 663]

     Pinkerton
     Arms - "Or, a chevron vert."
     Crest - "A Rose gules, stalked and leaved vert."
     Motto - "Post nubia sol." "After Clouds, Sunshine"

Based on HERALDRY IN AMERICA, by EUGENE ZIEBER,
