HENRY AUGUST FREDERICK ANNAN was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, and
relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 2 with his parents to
Brownstone Township, Jackson County, Indiana, where he was reared
under the parental roof. His youthful days of education was in the
public school houses of Brownstone Twp. His business training was
received under the direction of his father JOHN FREDERICK ANNAN, who
gave to his children the benefit of his experience and sound judgment.

LAND PURCHASED IN PAGE COUNTY:
Records show that HENRY A. F. ANNAN was in Page County, Iowa prior
to 6th of March 1855 this would have made him about 21 years old.
When he purchased part of two sections of 160 acres in Section 13
and 24 of Lincoln Township. Four months later his father JOHN F.
ANNAN purchased 40 acres in Section 22 of Harlan Township, on 26th
July, 1855. There also was a Land Patent dated 1st. December 1859
that a AUSTIN BUCHER who was in Captain STONE's Company of the "KERMONT
MILITIA" (War of 1812) assigned to a HENRY ANNAN this same 160
acres that HENRY A. F. ANNAN recorded on March 6, 1855.

After HENRY A. F. and LOUISA (McNUTT) ANNAN married in 1857, they
relocated on their homeplace, they had but a peck of potatoes and
a small sack of cornmeal and had to endure privations incident to
pioneer life.

[REF:#14] It has been reported that HENRY A. F. ANNAN said that prices
were very low, and that he would sell wheat for 7 cents per bushel.
During the time about 1859 in Page County, Iowa most of all supplies
were freighted up from St. Joseph, Missouri. HENRY A. F. ANNAN would
always re-tell a story of an Huskster wagon which he would sell his
produce to. Once when eggs were 1 1/2 cents a dozen, he had saved
up quite a supply, and the Huskster failed to come as expected and
several baskets were emptied to the hogs. No sooner was this done
than the wagon arrived, but the eggs were mostly inside the hogs with
little loss the the owner.

[REF:#15] HENRY A. F. ANNAN'S family was confirmed and united with the
German Lutheran Church. HENRY A.F. ANNAN was an benevolent man and
had taken pleasure in assisting the poor whenever possible. He was
an honored member of both the Masonic Lodge in Clarinda and the
"Independent Order of Odd Fellows" (I.O.O.F.) of Coin, Lincoln Twp.
