THE SAC SUN, Vol. VI, No. 29, FEBRUARY 2, 1877

R. R.--The Chicago Tribune says: "The Maple Valley Road is another Northwestern road into Ida county. The western terminus is not fixed, but will be probably at Onawa. Stakes have been stuck as far as Smithland, and the contracts made for grading and track-laying . The road will be pushed forward next season as far as possible, to move the crops of the next harvest. The Company own large quantities of land along the proposed road, and have sold probably enough to build the road.

MAPLE RIVER R. R.--The bridge over the Boyer, and all bridges between it and the junction, have been completed.

Stebbins, one of the contractors, seems to be a first-rate man, so far as leaving his bills unpaid is concerned. We advise people to trust him for anything.

The two men injured some time ago are recovering, and will be pretty sound.

EMIGRATION.--We do not look for a very heavy rush of land buyers to our county next Spring. The stories of the grasshoppers have gone abroad, and although doubly exaggerated, will undoubtedly have their effect. Men intending to come will wait till after harvest, to see what kind of crops we have. If good, there will be a large increase to our population.

In the southwestern part of our county, the building of the Maple River R. R. will draw a good many settlers, not only to buy the rich lands of that region, but also to settle in the towns that will be established. These places will undoubtedly have the sudden quick growth so characteristic of western towns. Persons wanting to procure eligible sites for trade will do well to be on hand soon. A good market will soon be established in our own county, and thousands of dollars thus be retained with us which hitherto have gone to support the towns in neighboring counties. Sac county is entering upon an era of prosperity that will soon carry it up in the front rank in Northwestern Iowa.

THE SAC SUN, Vol. VI, No. 32, FEBRUARY 23, 1877

R. R.--In our advertisement columns will be found the right of way notice of the Maple River R. R. Co., to parties owning land in Sac county. Mr. Runyon, the agent, informed us the ties and iron have been purchased, and the road will be completed as soon as possible.

CARROLL, Iowa, Feb. 16.--Fast work is being done on the new railroad, called the Maple River Railroad, a branch of the Chicago & Northwestern Road. Grading will be so done that they can commence laying iron by the first of June. It is hoped the road will be in running order by the first of July. This road runs through the best farming country in Iowa, and will be of great profit to the Chicago & Northwestern Road, connecting with it at a point about three miles west of this place.--Dubuque Telegraph.

The editors along the Northwestern road, from Grand Junction to Carroll inclusive (except Glidden), are engaged in the roughest fight we have ever yet seen. It gives us new ideas of the power and dignity of the Press. If they live till Summer, some of them will be struck by lightning.
