Ice Skating in Odebolt

The below photo was sent to R.J. Rex from Linda Vallow who lives in California.  She has ties to Odebolt through Anders Gustaf Myrell, who was a blacksmith in Odebolt in the early 1900's.  The photo is of a group of children skating on the "Odebolt Skating Pond", taken by Edgar Reuber.

If anyone knows the history or location of this pond in the early 1900's, please contact us and let us know.

Odebolt resident, Warren Hanson, who was born in 1912, says that he remembers ice skating west of the Miller Blacksmith shop and "King" building.  There was a flat place there before the road was put in.

Click the below photo for an enlargement and a closer look at the children.  You will see a "1" and "2".  #1 is Katherine (Effie) Myrell and #2 is Ruby Myrell at about age 11.
