Samuel McFarland

Samuel McFarland was born March 10, 1827, in County Tyrone, Ireland.  In 1850 he came with his sister to Montreal, Canada.  On April 2, 1857, he married Amy (Emma) Winegard, born in Canada in 1836.  They made their home in Kemptville, Ontario for five years, coming to Clinton County, Iowa, in 1862, where they lived until 1898, when they moved to Odebolt.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McFarland were parents of George, who died in childhood; Isaac, who died in infancy; Jennie (Mrs. Coy); Evaline (Mrs. Bert Reed); John, who married Anna Meyer; Gilmer; and William.

Gilmer McFarland was born 1869, on a farm near Ellwood, Iowa.  In 1891, he married Minnie Rhue.  In 1893, they moved to Odebolt, where "Gil" owned and operated a meat market for two years.  He then worked with his brother John as a carpenter.  Later he was in the contracitng and carpenter business for himself.  Gil's wife Minnie died in 1926 and in 1933 he married Emma Hix.

Gilmer and Minnie McFarland were parents of Earl, who married Laura Moore; Vern, who married Evelyn Reik; Glen, who married Elizabeth Stueckrath; Ruth (Mrs. Ralph Nagel- Mrs. Noble Box); and Ethel (Mrs. George Wareham - Mrs. Joe Hardy).

Mr. and Mrs. Earl McFarland were parents of Louise (Mrs. Clifford Rabe); June (Mrs. Sherman Thorpe); Earl, Jr., married Irene Richardson; Elaine (Mrs. Al Gray); and Tillman married Henrietta Neutzman.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen McFarland were parents of Florence (Mrs. William Frey); Harold married first to Rosena Richardson and second to Dorothy Brown; Duane, married first to JoAnne Boerner and second to Doris Stepanek.
