KIRON RHYTHM BAND MAKES HIT

From Crawford County Historic Preservation Commission Facebook Page – November 10, 2017
Denison Review – August 31, 1939

Their ancestors came from Sweden, but the pupils of Hayes township, Ida County, attracted plenty of attention in their Scotch dress at the Old Settlers' Picnic.

Organized last fall by Miss Marion Sundell, teacher, the group has played on various occasions all year. Last Thursday they received an enthusiastic reception at the picnic.

Members of the band are (Back) Bueal Hedstrom, Gerald Hedstrom, Lewellyn Larson, Mardell Carlson, Gene Bergman, Miss Sundell, Mary Ann Skarin, (Middle) Wesley Larson, Lucille Larsen, Richard Hemer, Evangeline Hedstrom, Warren Skarin, (Front) Carroll Skarin, Burdette Hedstrom, Betty Johnson and Maydell Hedstrom. When Jesse W. Denison, founder of Denison, colonized the county he placed Swedes around Kiron, until the community became known at the “Swede Settlement.” These settlers worked north into Sac and Ida counties. These pupils are descendants of the original Swede settlers.
