Marvin Roeder

Services were Sept. 21, 1999 for Marvin Fred Roeder, 86, of Odebolt at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Allan A. Reicks officiated with burial in St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Roeder died Sept. 18 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mr. Roeder was born March 24, 1913, in Sac County, the son of Adam and Lillian (Haefner) Roeder. He lived all his life on the farm where he was born. He attended country school, St. Martin's Catholic School and Odebolt High School.

He married Veronica Jones Jan. 29, 1935, at St. Martin's Catholic Church. He farmed for many years retiring in 1976. He was one of the first to contour farm, and also was a custom applicator of anhydrous ammonia. He was a director of the Richland #3 Country School.

Survivors include his wife; a son, George Roeder of Arthur; a daughter and her husband, Lois and Don Dunkin of Odebolt; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dean and Dawn Roeder, Paul and Sue Roeder, Joan and Dale Olerich, Carol and James Larson and Janet and David Mott; and nine great-grandchildren.


Marvin Fertig

Services were Sept. 22, 1999 for Marvin R. Fertig, 73, of Odebolt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. Burial was in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Fertig died Sept. 20 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City.

Edith (Lundblad) Noyd

Services were Sept. 11, 1999 for Edith M. Noyd, 96, of Odebolt at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt, officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Noyd died Sept. 8 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Noyd was born Sept. 9, 1902, in Arthur, the daughter of Emil and Lydia Lundblad. She moved with her family to Odebolt when she was five years old. She graduated from Odebolt High School in 1919. She then attended a commercial college in Des Moines. She returned to Odebolt where she was employed as a clerk and bookkeeper in Larson's Store until her marriage.

She married George Noyd Sept. 16, 1929. The couple farmed in the Odebolt area for 30 years, retiring and moving to their present home in Odebolt in 1960. With the care from her brothers and niece Laurie and special friends, she lived in her own home until six weeks before her death which was only a day before her 97th birthday.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Nadine and Robert Proctor; a grandson, Charles Proctor; a granddaughter and her husband, Janet Proctor Bennett and David Bennett; a great-granddaughter, Alexandria Bennett; a sister, Alice Lawson of Spencer; and two brothers, Lloyd Lundblad and LeRoy Lundblad, both of Odebolt; several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church (now Faith Lutheran). She taught Sunday school for many years and was an active member of the Luther League and later the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society of the church.

Elmer Kessler

Services were Sept. 11, 1999 for Elmer John Kessler, 95, of Odebolt at United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Kessler died Sept. 9 at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake.

Mr. Kessler was born Aug. 8, 1904, in Richland Township, Sac County, the son of George H. and Mary (Geyer) Kessler. He was baptized and confirmed in the Richland Methodist Church, and later transferred to the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. He attended Richland Country School through the eighth grade.

He married Emma Johanna Hansen Jan. 5, 1927, at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage in Storm Lake. The couple opened their home to two baby girls, Ferne Mary and Lois Ann. They farmed north of Odebolt for many years. They retired from farming and moved into Odebolt in February 1961. In January 1986, they moved to Twilight Acres in Wall Lake. She died in 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Ferne and her husband, Leonard Carstensen of Odebolt and Lois Oxendale of Arthur; three grandchildren, Julie and her husband, Tom Russell of Gurnee, Ill., Mary and her husband, Brian Robinson of Falls Church, Va., and Kurt and his wife, Tammy Carstensen of Odebolt; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandra and William Russell, Bailey and Sydney Robinson and Colton, Casey and Cailin Carstensen; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Rita Schwaller

Services were Sept. 7, 1999 for Rita Mae Schwaller, 62, of Odebolt at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Allen Reicks officiated with burial in St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Schwaller died Sept. 2 near Schaller.


Marjean Krusenstjerna

Memorial services were Aug. 28. 1999 for Marjean Krusenstjerna, 66, of Odebolt at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Charles Bulger officiated with inurnment in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Krusenstjerna died Aug. 25 at her home.


Myrtle Fineran

Services were Aug. 28, 1999 for Myrtle Hannah Fineran, 92, of Northfield, Minn., formerly of Odebolt, at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt. Mrs. Fineran died Aug. 19 at Northfield.

Esther Stehr

Services were Aug. 13, 1999 for Esther A.R. Stehr, 91, of Odebolt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Albert Buelow officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Stehr died Aug. 10 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.


Richard Johnson

Services were Aug. 6, 1999 for Richard R. Johnson, 51, of Davenport at First United Methodist Church in Moline, Ill. The Rev. Glen Bocox officiated. Graveside services were Saturday, Aug. 7 at Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of Trimble Funeral Homes of Moline, Ill.  Mr. Johnson died Aug. 3 at his home.


Elizabeth "Betty" Olson

Memorial services were Aug. 5, 1999 for Elizabeth "Betty" Agnes Olson, 96, of Odebolt at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson officiated with inurnment in Slater Cemetery in Slater under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Olson died Aug. 3 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.

Bernie Thayer

Services were July 26, 1999 for Bernie Edward Thayer, 86, of Odebolt at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Herman Kelly officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Thayer died July 22 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.


Bill Moore

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Bill Moore, 81, of rural Odebolt. The body was cremated. Visitation was held June 22 at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Moore died June 20 at his residence.


Leo Miller

Services were June 28, 1999 for Leo Chris Miller, 85, of Odebolt at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Allan Reicks officiated with burial in St. Martin's Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Miller died June 22 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

LaVerne Nielsen

Services were June 15, 1999 for LaVerne Nielsen, 89, of Odebolt at Arthur United Methodist Church. The Rev. W. Michael Biklen officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Nielsen died June 12 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.


Leona Stiles

Services were April 29, 1999 for Leona Laura Stiles, 92, of Odebolt at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Marcia F. Sangel officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Stiles died April 26 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.


Myrtle Lundblad

Services were April 26, 1999 for Myrtle A. Lundblad, 86, of Odebolt at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson, pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt, officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery.  Mrs. Lundblad died April 24 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center.

Myrtle Barker

Services were April 7, 1999 for Myrtle Christine Barker, 86, of Arthur at the United Methodist Church in Arthur. The Rev. W. Michael Biklen officiated with burial in Hayes Township Cemetery, rural Arthur, under the direc-tion of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mrs. Barker died April 14 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.


Dick Mitchell

Services were April 14, 1999 for Richard "Dick" Thomas Mitchell, 75, of Odebolt at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Allan A. Reicks officiated with burial in St. Martin's Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Roose Post 311, under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt. Mr. Mitchell died April 11 at his home


Dale Wulf

Services were April 5, 1999 for Dale Franklin Wulf, 48, of Odebolt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Albert Buelow officiated with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Kiron under the direction of Walter Huebner and Sons' Funeral Service in Denison.  Mr. Wulf died March 31 at Boyer.

Russell Reik

Services were March 26, 1999 for Russell Darwin Reik, 85, of Odebolt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Albert Buelow officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Reik died March 23 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb.


Rolan Blake

Services will be April 1, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. for Rolan M. Blake, 73, of Odebolt at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Revs. Victor Johnson and Allan A. Reicks will officiate with burial in Afton Township Cemetery in rural Cherokee, at 2 p.m., with military honors conducted by Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion. Friends may call at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.  Mr. Blake died March 28 at his home.


Jessie Hummel

Graveside services will be March 25, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. for Jessie Hummel of Odebolt at Odebolt Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Bulger will officiate under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Odebolt.  Mrs. Hummel died March 21 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Services were March 15, 1999 for Lawrence J. "Larry" Trudeau, 91, of Odebolt at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Roose Post 313, under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Trudeau died March 11 at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.


Jon Pingel

Services were Feb. 9, 1999 for Jon Charles Pingel, 59, chief of police of Odebolt, at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Lanny R. Carlson officiated with burial, with military honors, in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Chief Pingel died Feb. 5 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.


Henry Stehr

Services were Jan. 19, 1999 for Henry August Albert Stehr, 99, of Odebolt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Albert Buelow officiated with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Kiron under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.  Mr. Stehr died Jan. 16 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Emmet Dublinske

Services were Dec. 3, 1999 for Emmet B. Dublinske, 78, of Odebolt at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direc-tion of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt. 

Mr. Dublinske died Nov. 30 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mr. Dublinske was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Wall Lake, the son of Carl and Alma (Schroeder) Dublinske.

He married Pauline Blum in 1942, in Dakota City, Neb. The couple lived in Odebolt and then in Yankton, S.D. before moving back to Odebolt in 1984. He worked for the Odebolt Creamery and as a metal fabricator while in Yankton.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Odebolt.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Stanley and Leslie Dublinske of Montgomery Village, Md., Neil and Patricia Dublinske of Odebolt and Lance and Judy Dublinske of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter and her husband, Roxie and Ron Hirsch of South Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Clara (Larson) Youngren

Services were Nov. 19, 1999 for Clara Thelma Youngren, 90, of Odebolt at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Charles Bulger officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Youngren died Nov. 16 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Mrs. Youngren was born Jan. 1, 1909, in rural Schaller, the daughter of Chris and Ellen (Knutsen) Larsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school and graduated from Schaller High School in 1927. She received her one-year teaching certificate from Buena Vista College in 1928. She taught in the rural Schaller area for a few years.

She married Paul Youngren March 29, 1930, in Schaller. The couple lived on the home farm seven miles north of Odebolt until retiring in 1964 and moving into Odebolt. He died in 1973, in Ida Grove.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Presbyterian Women, Mary Elizabeth Guild, Odebolt Women's Club and M and K Club.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Carol and Ruth Youngren of Odebolt; four daughters and their husbands, Mary Ella and Robert Van Diest of Webster City, Miriam and Tom Phillips of Fredericksburg, VA, Janette and William Stock of Minatrista, Minn. and Kathleen and Roger Budd of Gaithersburg, Md.; 15 grandchildren, Robert and his wife, Nancy Youngren and Jerry and his wife, Linda Youngren, all of Odebolt, Janet and her husband, Steve Case of Omaha, Neb., Beth and her husband, Tom Brincks of Carroll, John and his wife, Beth Van Diest of Webster City, Linda and her husband, Mike Thurman of Denver, Colo., Karen Van Diest of Pleasantville, Steven and his wife, Marjorie Phillips and Danny and his wife, Kitty Phillips, all of Arlington, Va., Randy Stock of Mt. View, Calif., Brad and his wife, Cindy Stock of Orlando, Fla., Susan and her husband, Ted Dankle of Minneapolis, Minn., Toby Bettin of Bethesda, Md., Todd Bettin of Gaithersburg, Md., and Tricia Bettin of Baltimore, Md.; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Almer Noyd

Memorial services were Nov. 4, 1999 for Almer Gunner Noyd, 92, of Odebolt at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Mr. Noyd died Oct. 31 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mr. Noyd was born April 11, 1907, the son of John E. and Mathilda Noyd. He spent his early years on the Noyd family farm northwest of Odebolt. He attended Richland Township School and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1926. He worked for Lindsey's Grocery and Department Store in Arthur and Brynstson's Clothing in Odebolt and assisted on the family farm following graduation.
