Nicholas Thies, Sr.

Nicholas Thies, born in Germany May 18, 1828 came to America in 1860 and settled in Mendota, Illinois.  In 1863 he married Mary Schimmer.  Nicholas and Mary were parents of Nickolas; Katherine (Mrs. Joseph Konradi); Sohia (sic) (Mrs. Jacob Bauer); Joseph married Annie Feltes; Elizabeth (Mrs. John Konradi); Julia; John married Australia Kennedy; Peter married Grace Whitney; Regina; Eleanor (Mrs. Frank Harley); and Maria who died in childhood.

Nickolas Thies, Jr. born at Sublette, Illinios in 1868 and died in 1950.  In 1877, he came to Odebolt vicinity and settled on a farm.  In 1896, he married Katherine Gronemeyer, who was born 1877 at Vail, Iowa.  Nick and Katherine were parents of a son who died in infancy; Regina (Mrs. Adam Bieschke); Genevieve (Mrs. Wm. Schwaller-Mrs. Joe Schreiber); Veronica (Mrs. Ed. Dinges); and Linus who married Clara Ziegmann.

Mr. and Mrs. William Schwaller were parents of Donald, married Verna Mae Tiefenthaler; Joyce (Mrs. Robert Wee); and Bonita (Mrs. Mike Jones).

 

John G. Wagner

John Wagner was born in 1867 in Germany, son of George and Elizabeth Wagner.  

In 1885 John left his home in Germany and came to America, believing there were broader opportunities here than in his native land.  He first located in Lee County, Illinois, where he worked as a farm laborer.  In 1893 he came to the Odebolt area and subsequently became a land owner in Richland Township.  In 1896 John married Mary Weitzel, daughter of Adam and Kate (Haefner) Weitzel.

Mr. and Mrs. John Wagner were parents of Alma (Mrs. Guy Johnson); Esther (Mrs. Charles Teaquist); Arthur married Edith Morey-Ethel Prescott; Frances (Mrs. Guy Thayer); Ralph married Thelma Olson-Mabel Stehr; Raymond married Dorothy Russell; Alice (Mrs. F.H. Griffin); Helen (Mrs. R.R. Griffin); Glen married Shirley Nordell; Amos married Dorothy Wilson; John married Irenen Kracht.

 

Michael B. Wolf

Michael B. Wolf was born 1858 in Alsace-Loraine, son of Michael and Margaret (Bartel) Wolf.  When he was fifteen years old he set sail for America and first located in Ohio.  In 1880 he married Lelia Smith, daughter of John Z. and Ruth (Scott) Smith, and two years later they came to Odebolt in 1882.  The farm had scarcely any improvements, although there was a house with no plastering and only a ladder for a stairway.  Mr. and Mrs. Wolf had one daughter, Esther (Mrs. William Kistler).

 

Peter Youngren

Peter Youngren was born December 11, 1863, in Sweden.  He came to Odebolt in 1881 and engaged in farming and mercantile pursuits.  He operated a store called "Youngren & Smith The Grocers".  On October 2, 1892, Peter married Bessie Larson, born August 18, 1870 in Ramsdalan, Norway.  Bessie came to the United States in the spring of 1889 and located in the Odebolt vicinity.  Peter died September 14, 1893 of typhoid fever and Peter and Bessie's son Paul, was born six days later.  After Peter's death Mrs. Youngren sold her husband's interest in the store to Pete Hedberg.  In 1895 Bessie Youngren married Alfred Youngren, a brother of Peter.  To Alfred and Bessie two sons were born, Hilmer and Bert.  Bert died in childhood.  In 1908 Bessie was again widowed when Alfred died as a result of falling from a load of hay.  Bessie managed to stay on the farm with her two sons, with the aid of hired help, until her sons were old enough to take over.  Mrs. Youngren died in November 1922.  Her son Paul married Clara Larsen; and Paul and Clara's son Carol Youngren and family now live on the Youngren farm. John Ziegmann

John Ziegmann was born in Bavaria, Germany May 5, 1843, was married in 1864 in Germany to Barbara Heidenreich, born in Bavaria, Germany, December 25, 1842.

In 1871, Mr. and Mrs. John Ziegmann made the trip across the ocean, coming to the United States, locating first at Hemshire, Illinois.  Five years later in 1876 they came to Sac County, Iowa and Mr. Ziegmann bought a farm southeast of Odebolt.  They lived there until their retirement in 1909, when they moved to Odebolt.

They were parents of ten children, four of whom passed away in infancy, two of whom died in Germany of small pox.  The other children are Barbara (Mrs. Joseph Wenzel); John married Mary Henrich; Anna; George; Joseph married Mary Stellpflug; and Anton married Ann Berning.

Mr. and Mrs. John Ziegmann's children (are) Albert married Julia Yohnke; Leo; Gertrude (Mrs. Everett Bettin); Joe married Mathilda Godberson; Margaret (Mrs. James Thompson); Bernard; Lawrence; Clara (Mrs. Linus Thies); and Rachael (Mrs. Bernard Thies).

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ziegmann's children are Barbara (Mrs. Ray Engel); Theresa (Mrs. Alvin Reising-Mrs. James Lilly); John married Thelma Rhoden; Paul married Lois Wollenson-Summerfeld; Walter, married Ann Corsop; Msgr. Leonard; and Eddie.

Mr. and Mrs. Anton Ziegmann's children are Arnold Married Edna Boes; Lillian (Mrs. Francis Swanson-Mrs. Edward Korneisel); Joseph married Marie Schmitt; Raymond; Dorothy (Mrs. James P. Van Fleet); Helen (Mrs. Sidney Peterson); Leone (Mrs. Leo Schmitt); Agnes (Mrs. Russell Ackerson); and Alice (Mrs. LuVern Snyder).

Mr. and Mrs. John Wenzel's children are John; Anna (Mrs. Phillip Schwarzkopf); George married Clara Riedmiller; Mary (Mrs. Fred Thoma); Joseph died in infancy; and Theresa.
