Odebolt Biography - Nelson, Pearson,

Alfred Nelson

Alfred Nelson, born in Sweden, 1863, son of John and Lena (Olson) Nelson.  In 1871 the family emigrated to America and located in Marshall County, Iowa.  In 1877 they came to Sac County and purchased land in Wheeler Township.  

In 1882 Alfred married Anna Sophia Peterson, born in Sweden, 1864, daughter of Olaf Peter Peterson, who died in 1871 and her mother married C.A. Gorenson.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson were parents of Albert; Ida (Mrs. H. Nelson); Emma (Mrs. O.E.Bergren); Will; Esther (Mrs. Arthur Conquist); Vern; Lillian (Mrs. Ted Tripp); Elmer; Sydney; Glen; Gladys; Francis; and Dorothy (Mrs. Richard Potteiger).

B. Pearson

Mr. and Mrs. B. Pearson came to Sac County March 1876, and settled 2 1/2 miles west of Early on a farm purchased from the Government, a year previous to their moving the family on the new prairie home.  They lived there 5 years, during that time a new town was started, called Odebolt, and Mr. Pearson going with a load of grain to that place, was the second man to sell a load in this new town.  After 5 years of farming, Mr. Pearson moved to Odebolt, buying a 40 acre home on the north of town, where his family could enter school and have more advantages.  Making his home at that place for 12 years, the family moved to town, in Wheeler's Addition.  Mr. Pearson always took an active part in church work, doing all he could to build up the church and school.  Mr. Sampson, always active, to, said that Mr. and Mrs. Pearson did all they could to help the poor and needy and at all times made every effort to help others to bear their burdens in life.  They were active members of the M.E. Church during the years they lived in Odebolt.

The oldest daughter, Lizzie, married Frank W. Stratton and lived in Odebolt and raised their family there.  Laura, Birt and Belle went to Brookings County, S.D., where Birt engaged in farming.  Laura and Belle, after attending school at Odebolt both taught school for a number of years in Aurora and Elkton, S.D. schools.  Ira finished school at Brookings, S.D., and left at once for Calgary, Canada, where he has since made his home.  He served in the Canadian army, enlisting at the first call and returning after war was over.  Arthur finished Odebolt School, after which he taught school a number of years.

Mr. and Mrs. Pearson both passed away in 1917, and were survived by their six children.
