Obtaining Historical Madison County Divorce Documents

 

In 2015, volunteers from the Madison County Genealogical Society sorted through the court document files for divorce documents. The first divorce record was in 1855, the last divorce document found in the court document file was for 1938. The documents have been indexed, placed in archival folders and archival boxes.

Request for divorce records 1938 and to current year are also available.

The names on some files have few pages, other names may have files consisting of several pages or may contain two or more folders.

PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN COPIES OF DIVORCE DOCUMENTS

     1. The Requestor shall send an Email to [email protected] including the names of the both parties seeking a divorce if known. 

     2. The corresponding secretary of the MCGS will research the index, then send a reply email, as to whether there is a divorce document record for name/names requested. If only, the divorce decree is requested the fee will be $10.00 plus copy fee and postage. 

     3. If the complete file of Plaintiff and Defendant files are wanted the secretary will count the number of pages and email the person submitting the request.  Requestor shall remit a check in the required amount per the fee schedule listed below to:

FEES - The fee will be $15.00 per hour, plus .50 cents per page copied, and the cost for postage.
