IOWA'S GHOST TOWN TOUR

When Iowa was just begining there were a lot of towns that were springing up. To all of the ones who planned and/or started those towns and villages in Iowa this site is dedicated to the preservation and memory of them and/or the towns they dreamed would some day be a thriving metropolis.
Some of those towns were important business areas and had many types of businesses. Grist Mills, lumber mills and lumber yards, general stores, harness shops, Blacksmiths and clothing stores just to name a few.
There were river towns that faded from history because the railroad caused the river traffic to wane. While many towns fell by the way side when the railroad bypassed them or just closed the lines that served them.
The names they gave the towns were many times, a reflection of where the pioneers came from or maybe a suggestion about the prairie or the area the town was built up around. They also named the towns after themselves or even a loved one who had died during their trip there. There are towns that are now just a corn field, pasture or timber. with nothing to show that the town even existed at all.

And now kick the dust off'n your feet and climb aboard our ole' wagon.
Enjoy your tour of some of Iowa's most intrest'n old towns. Some are gone but not forgotten. Others we are are trying to bring to memory again. While some, still here, will let you know what some of our Pioneers went through to allow us to have the modern convienences we have at our disposal today. While you take your tour please take note of what you see and maybe, just maybe, you might know of something to add to the towns we pass through. Or you might even know of other IOWA GHOST TOWNS you have seen that you can help us add to these, we will be showing you today.
Now if you mosey on down to the wagon, the wagon master is about ready to give his famous shout "Wagons-Ho", so ya'll hurry up now, don't miss the next wagon train.
But if you do don't worry thar'll be another'n along soon.

This is an ongoing project and there probably will always be some changes.
This site is for all towns in Iowa that no longer exist, or have very few relics to prove the town even existed
Towns that have a very small population compared to what they once were in their prime time.
In the future you look forward to be more links, and information regarding Iowa's Ghost towns.
Would you like to help? You can, if you know of any Iowa towns that would fit into this catagory, send them to me.
