PATRICK H. RYAN was born in Ireland in 1856, and was reared in his native land.    He was about twenty years of age when he began studying for the priesthood, and a year later came to America and completed   his studies at St. Joseph's College, Dubuque, Iowa.   He was ordained a priest in May, 1882, and after a few months as assistant pastor at the Cathedral in Dubuque, took charge, as pastor, of St. Michael's church, at Ryan; soon afterwards, the present church edifice and residence were erected and here he has since been located.    His parishioners   comprise the   members of about one hundred families and to this flock his chief time is devoted as a spiritual advisor, as well as temporal.    He, also, has   charge of St. Francis' church at Prairieburg, Linn county, with the members of about one hundred families in attendance.   This neat edifice and parochial residence was erected at a cost of about $12,000, and in its erection Father Ryan took no small hand in raising the necessary funds to bring it to a completion.
