MULLAN, HUBER
Brian James Mullan
February 29, 2004 My grandfather Gene Harold MULLAN was living in Manchester
Iowa when I was
born (1952) and I assume had been there for some time. My father William
Howard MULLAN graduated from High School in Manchester (I think his class
had 12 in it <grin>).
My dad entered the US Marines in WWII and spent several years in the Pacific
(Iwo Jima, Guadelcanal) and was selected to be on the 1st ship which landed
occupation forces in Japan at wars end.
After the war dad went back to working in the telephone business with his
father and eventually retired from what by then was GTE of Iowa.
My Grandfather Gene Harold MULLAN was originally married to a woman named
Olla Lucinda Peyton. Olla from what I was told was murdered by a
hitch-hiker she picked up while driving through Kansas around 1956.
Gene Mullan later married a woman named Mame ? .
I am trying to find any information I can about any of these characters....
Olla Lucinda Peyton
- fathers name was Delbert Peyton & mother's was Nettie ?
Gene Harold MULLAN
Nettie ?
Mame ?
or even my dad... William Howard MULLAN.
My mother's side of the family is this:
Mother: Catherine HUBER born 1917
parents: George & Mary HUBER (farmed near Buck Creek Iowa... south of Delhi)
siblings: Jay, Patrick, Thomas, Don (Duck), Dave, Helen, Lorrie, Clare
My uncle Donald HUBER still lives on my grandfathers farm.
I would like to find out any information you might have on any of these as
well.

resided in South Fork twp., Delaware county, Iowa. I
found them in the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census, and they are buried in

family and this is one of the brothers we do not have much info on. His
parents were THOMAS SODEN TIBBITTS and JANE CATER, both born in Soham,
England. John was also born there. He was a brother to my great-great
grandfather Samuel Tibbitts and he and John came to Iowa from Illinois
before 1870. We believe that John was a farmer, and also raised cattle.

GILMORE,
PHILLIPS, DODGE, HALL
Patrick Gilmore May 21, 2004
I am seeking any information about GILMORE and PHILLIPS families
in Colony and Delhi Townships, Delaware County, and DODGE and HALL families in
Mallory, Clayton County. My great-great grandfather was Silas GILMORE, first
settler of Colony in 1839. He married Maria (Mariah) PHILLIPS, daughter of
Simeon and Esther PHILLIPS of Delhi, in Dubuque in 1844. Maria was Colony's
first "school marm". Their son, George Jesse GILMORE, born in 1852, married
Adelia DODGE, daughter of Trustrum and Adeline DODGE of Mallory, Clayton
County, in 1872 or 1873. George Jesse and Adelia later moved with their two
little girls, Cora and Addie, accompanied by Adelia's sister, Emaline DODGE
and her husband C.M. HALL, to Ft. Worth, Texas about 1877. They returned to
western Iowa (Ida County) prior to 1884 to join the rest of the Gilmore
family, all of whom by then had moved away from Delaware County. Mariah
GILMORE had died in Colesburg and was buried in Delaware County in 1872,
however. The DODGE, HALL, and PHILLIPS families remained in eastern Iowa, as
far as I know. ANY information you can provide about any of these families,
no matter how little, will be greatly appreciated!

McCUTCHEN
Ty
Barth September 17, 2004
Many years ago my grandfather gave me an old collection of
Civil War era letters. I am currently transcribing the collection, which I
must say is very tedious and time consuming. Anyhow, I came across a number of
letters written by one Mollie McCUTCHEN. She appears to have been a teacher at
the old college in Hopkington around the close of the Civil War. I was
wondering where I could find additional information on her. I also have a
number of letters from a Hezekiah Garber that served in the 27th Iowa. I'm not
sure yet of his connection to Hopkington or Delaware County. Any help would be
much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
