Reasonor; born in Prussia, Germany, in 1842; emigrated to America in 1856, and to Jasper Co., Elk Creek Township, in 1856; has 130 acres of land, valued at $50 per acre.  He married Ann CHARLESWORTH in 1863; she was born in Henry Co., Ind., in 1848; they have seven children�William, Ida, Mena, Ella, Mary, Milla and Arthur.  Independent in politics; Mr. and Mrs. EGGART are members of the Lutheran Church.

V. I., in August, 1862; taken prisoner while on post guard at Helena, Ark., in January, 1863; held at St. Louis; paroled and returned to hospital then until discharged on account of ill health, Sept. 1, 1863.

WATKINS in 1866; she was born in Kentucky in 1848; they have three children�Eddie S., born in 1867; Alice S., born in 1868, and Howard T., born in 1871.  Greenbacker.  Enlisted in Co. K, 28th Iowa Inf., in Aug. 1862; participated in the battles of Port Gibson, Vicksburg, Jackson, Champion Hills, Banks� Red River raid, with Sherman in the Shenandoah Valley; made Fifth Corporal and Color Guard; mustered out at Savannah, Ga., in Aug., 1865.

GUTHRIE, I. N.; Farmer and grower of fine stock; Sec. 5; P. O. Newton; born in Lancaster, Penn., in 1833; came to Jasper Co., in 1853.  Has 260 acres of land, valued at $50 per acre.  Married Martha THOMPSON in 1858; she was born in Henry Co., Ind., in 1830; they have five children�Annie T., John D., Martha B., Lillie May and George C.  Greenbacker.  Has held offices of School Director two terms and Road Supervisor three terms.  Mr. and Mrs. G. are members of the Presbyterian Church.  He is a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, No. 74, Newton.  Mr. G. had, on coming to Jasper County, only enough to enter 160 acres of land, and now has one of the best stock farms in the county, well supplied with water, several fine groves, a stock barn which cost him $1,500, 200 apple trees, and his land well underlaid with coal and only three and one-quarter miles from Newton.

HILL, Robert M.; Farmer; Sec. 14; P. O. Newton; born in Tyrone Co., Ireland, in 1829; emigrated to America in 1853, and to Jasper County in 1854; has 150 acres of land, valued at $45 per acre.  Married Miss Annie ALEXANDER in 1865; she was born in Linn Co., Iowa, in 1840; they have seven children�Bessie, Renwick A., Annie M., M. Irwin; Kate A., Robert J., Susie M.  Hugh, died in September, 1877.  Members of the United Presbyterian Church.  Mr. HILL went to Kansas in May, 1856, as the Pro-slavery war was breaking out; crossed the Missouri River at St. Jo, just before the boats were taken by the Pro-slavery party; was taken prisoner by that party, robbed of $210 in gold, team and wagon, and left bound and gagged, but managed to escape, and in time recovered his team and wagon, but not his money.  The account of it getting into the Eastern papers, thence into the Jasper County paper, and his people supposing him dead, his funeral sermon was preached; he afterward returned to his home in Jasper County, and is now a worthy citizen of that county.

Newton; born in Hendricks Co., Ind., in 1834; cam to Jasper Co. in 1851; has forty acres of land, valued at $60 per acre.  He married Lucinda NEWTON in 1866; she was born in Hendricks Co., Ind., in 1841; they have three children�William A., Ray and Henry T.  Greenbacker.  Has held the offices of Township Trustee and School Director.  Enlisted in the 2d I. V. I. In July, 1861, for three years, skirmishing, etc., until mustered out on account of disability from injuries received in September, 1862.

Reasonor; born in Indiana Co., Penn., Nov. 5, 1810; removed to Lee Co., Ill., in 1855; thence to Bureau Co., Ill, 1860; thence to Jasper Co., in1871; has seventy-five acres of land, valued at $35 per acre.  Married Miss Sarah CRUMB March 14, 1839; she was born in Cambria Co., Penn., in 1810; they have five children�Sarah J., Lucinda, Harry, Samuel and Percilla.  Greenbacker; Mr. and Mrs. K. and one daughter are members of the M. E. Church.

KUHNS, Reuben; Farmer; Sec. 21; P. O. Newton; born in Westmoreland Co., Penn., in 1808; came to Jasper Co., in 1855; owns 100 acres of land, valued at $75 per acre, and a residence with sixteen lots on Kellogg st., Newton, worth $3,300.  Married Miss Elizabeth BURNER in 1833; she was born in Shenandoah Co., Va., in 1812; they have four children�Elias, Reuben W., Daniel and Dennis.  Republican; Mr. KUHNS is a member of the United Presbyterian Church, and Mrs. K. of the M. E. Church.  Mr. K. has owned in this county 700 acres of land, 300 acres or more of which was entered from the Government.

Samuel, Alfred Arthur and Thomas.  Independent in politics.  While in Philadelphia, followed the occupation of buying wool for factories, and now deals in wool in the season for it; owns a market at Newton and buys stock.
