Galesburg; owns 160 acres of land, valued at $6,000; born in Hocking Co., Ohio, July 4, 1830; is the son of John A. and Annie BUTIN, both now deceased; he moved with his parents to Burlington, Warren Co., Iowa, in 1847; remained till Spring of 1850, and moved to this county, settling on Sec. 8, this township; he moved to this farm in the Spring of 1856.  Married Electa A. EFNOR in this township in 1854; she was born in Hadley, Saratoga Co., N. Y., Aug. 17, 1835, and is the daughter of Samuel and Lexanie EFNOR, the former a native of New York and the latter of Massachusetts; they came to this county in 1854, settling on Sec. 6, this township; Mr. BUTIN�s children are Lusettie, Mary, Marion, Samuel and Edwin.  Is politically a Republican, and a member of M. E. Church.

CATING, Morris; Farmer; Sec. 8; P. O. Galesburg; born in Jackson Co., Ohio, December 17, 1821; moved to Warren Co., Indiana, with his parents when a child; thence to Sullivan Co., Indiana; thence to Champaign Co., Ill.; thence back to Warren Co., Indiana, and in the Fall of 1854, moved to this county, settling near Galesburg on the farm now owned by James Smith; moved to his present farm in 1864, where he has ever since resided.

CHAMBERS, Preston; Attorney at law; P. O.  Pella; born in Monroe Co., Indiana, March 22, 1824; moved to Carroll Co., Indiana, with his parents when 4 years old, moved to Tippecanoe Co. when 7 years old, and to La Porte Co., when 9 years old, where he remained till the Fall of 1855; moved to this county, settling in this township, where he now owns 415 acres of land, valued at $12,000.  Mr. CHAMBERS is one of the leading men of this township, and has held the office of Justice of the Peace, Assessor, and from 1856 held some one of the School offices till November, 1877, when he resigned two offices which he then held, and moved to Pella, Marion CO., for the purpose of educating his family, and where he still resides; was admitted to the bar in the Spring of 1878, and is now principally engaged in his profession, but has been engaged in the stock business quite extensively since 1863.  He married in La Porte Co., Indiana, Rachel WEST, October 21, 1848; she is a native of Pennsylvania; their children are Mattie, Allie and Della.

CORSELIUS, J. C.; Physician and surgeon; Galesburg; born ion Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, February 6, 1837; commenced the study of medicine with Dr. J. M. BECKER, at Newton, Pennsylvania; attended his first course of medical lectures at Ann Arbor, Mich., and a second course in the Medical Department of the University of New York, in New York City; he commenced the practice of his profession in Newton, Pennsylvania; but, in 1863, moved to this county, settling in Lynnville, where he remained one year, and moved to Peoria, Mahaska Co., stayed till 1866, and moved to this village, where he has since resided.  Married Mary SHELLY in Wyoming Co., Pennsylvania, in 1861; she was born in Luzerne Co., in 1842; their children are Fred, Harry, Jephtha C., Bertha, Fannie and Mollie.

DEARINGER, C. M.; Farmer; Sec. 24; P. O. Galesburg.

DAVIS, A.; Farmer; Sec. 7; P. O. Galesburg; owns eighty acres, valued at $2,500; born in Clearfield Co., Penn., July 26, 1810; came to this county in July, 1856, settling where he now lives.  He married Eliza A. ROSS, who is a native of New York State; their children are Mary A., Elmira A. and Charles F.  Mrs. DAVIS� children by a former marriage with Mr. ROSS are Robert, Charles F. and Harrison C.  They are members of the Evangelical Church.

DEARINGER, G. W.; Farmer; Sec. 13; P. O. Galesburg; owns eighty acres, valued at $3,000; born in Marion Co., Ind., June 8, 1836; he is the son of Jacob and Nancy DEARINGER, natives of Kentucky; the former died in 1873 in his 86th year; the latter is still living in this township in her 84th year.  Mr. D. moved to this county in 1851, settling in this township, and to his present farm in 1874.  He married Miss Mary MUDGETT in this township in 1861; she was born in Maysville, Ky., May 25, 1839; their children are Abbie Q., born July 31, 1863; John J., born June 4, 1866; Ira B., born Sept. 26, 1869; Fannie, born June 25, 1874.  Politically, he is a Republican, and wife is a member of the Methodist Church.

DEARINGER, Jacob; Farmer; Sec. 36; P. O. Galesburg; owns 114 acres, valued at $3,500; born in Ripley Co,. Ind., Feb. 22, 1822; moved to Indianapolis, Ind., with his parents when about 10 years old, where he remained till 1858, when he moved to this township, where he has since resided.  He married Hannah LOUCKS in 1846; she was a native of Indiana, and died in this township Aug. 28, 1866; his children by this marriage are Leonidas, Mary, William, George, Edward, Eleanor, Senora and Charles. He married again, Miss Mary LINEUS, in March, 1868; she is a native of Henry Co., Iowa; their children are Julia A., Josephine E., Greeley M., Robert W. and James.  Politically, he is a Republican.

DOVE, S. P.; Farmer; Sec. 1; P. O. Galesburg; owns eighty acres, valued at $2,000; born in Logan CO., Ohio, in June, 1846; in 1858, he moved with parents to Marion Co., Iowa.  Enlisted Aug. 21, 1861, in the 8th I. V. I., Co. H; was in the battles of Springfield, Shiloh and Corinth; at the latter place he was severely wounded, but recovered and joined his regiment, and was afterward engaged in many battles; he was discharged Jan. 10, 1864, and the same day re-enlisted in the same company and regiment, and was engaged in the battles of Jackson, Miss., siege of Vicksburg, capture of Mobile, etc.; was again wounded at Jackson, and laid four days in an old shanty, near the battle-field without attendance, but was at length rescued from death; he was discharged April 12, 1866.  In 1865, he married Drusilla LIPPINCOTT in Bellefontaine, Ohio; in 1867, he moved to Tama Co., Iowa; in 1870, he moved to Nebraska and remained two years; he then went back to Logan Co., Ohio, where his wife died April 6, 1872; he then came to this county, remained a short time, went to Nebraska and sold his property there, and returned to Mahaska Co., and bought a farm near Granville, where he married Elizabeth J. LUCKEY June 29, 1873; she was born in Mahaska Co. Dec. 28, 1854; he has one daughter � Amelia I., and an adopted son named Alfred D.  Is a Republican, and member of the United Brethren Church.

EARP, L. P.; Farmer; Sec. 26; P. O. Galesburg; owns 126 acres, valued at $3,600; born in Lincoln Co., N. C., in 1809; his father was a school teacher, and, in that country, his profession naturally led him to change his residence 2quite often; they moved to the north part of Logan Co., Ky., in 1815; remained two years and moved to the south part of the same county; stayed three years and moved to Morgantown, Butler Co., Ky., and when about 17 years old moved to Ohio Co., Ky.; there they lived till 1846, and moved to Monmouth, Warren Co., Ill.; there his father died in 1853, and in the Fall of the same year he moved to Iowa, settling in Warren Co., but in 1854, he moved to this county, where he has since resided.  He married in Ohio Co., Ky., Dec. 25, 1834, Miss Nancy STORM; she was born in Grayson Co., Ky., March 21, 1815, and died Feb. 1, 1851; their children are Peter A., Walter M., Mary A. (now Mrs. ILER, Jonathan L. and Nancy J. (now Mrs. CLARK).  Married again Syrena ILER in Warren CO., Ill., in 1851; she was born in Ohio CO., Ky., in 1822; their children are Eveline (now Mrs. TALBOT), Thomas W., John R., Rozelia, Emily, Robert M., Phebe E. and Melvina.  Mr. E. is a Republican, and a member of the M. E. Church.  Mr. E.�s son, William H., enlisted in the 10th I. V. I.; was stationed at Cairo, where he became sick and was discharged for disability; he returned home, and his health improving, he re-enlisted in the 33rd I. V. I; was engaged in several battles, but took a fever and died at Little Rock, Ark., July 8,1864.

HART, Theodore; dealer in drugs and medicines, groceries, confectioneries, school books, etc.; Galesburg; was born in Columbiana Co., Ohio, Dec. 5, 1819; moved with his parents to Carroll Co., Ohio, when about a year old; there he was raised on a farm till 25 years of age; he then studied medicine with J. F. LINDSAY, M. D., in Mechanicstown, Carroll County.  July 24, 1850, he married Mary A. J. MORGAN; she was a native of Allegheny Co., Penn.  He was then engaged for several years as clerk in the store of his wife�s uncle, in Carrolltown; but in the Spring of 1855, moved to this county, settling about four miles north of this village, in what is now Buena Vista Township; here he commenced the practice of medicine in connection with farming till the Fall of 1858, when he sold out and moved to Albion, Marshall County; practiced medicine there till the Spring of 1860; he then went, with thousands of others, to Pike�s Peak, but returned the same Fall and resumed his practice in Albion till the fall of 1862, when he went to Ohio; remained one year and returned to this county and bought a farm three miles north of this village; in 1867, he sold his farm and moved to Newton, where he resided two years, and then moved to this village and practiced medicine three years; but since then has devoted his whole time to the business in which he is now engaged.  During the Kansas and Nebraska troubles, just before the war, he, with a neighbor, went to Kansas to look at the country; they were captured by the Proslavery party, under Capt. LOWE, and held prisoners at Hickory Point, about a week, when they made their escape and returned to their families.  Mrs. HART died Jan. 11, 1878, in her 50th year.  His children are William S., attorney at law; Cyrus W., Theodore, Laura W. and John F. During and since the war, Mr. H. was a Republican; but is now a Democrat.

HEAIVILIN, Jeremiah; Farmer; Sec. 13; P. O. Reasnor; owns 240 acres, valued at $6,000� born in Harrison CO., Ohio, in September, 1832, when 4 years old, moved with his parents to Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, where he lived till the Fall of 1854, and moved to Iowa, settling in Marion County, and to his present farm in 1865.  He married Martha J. SCOTT, in Marion County, Aug. 19, 1855; she was born in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio; their children are Martin L., Samantha J., Malon W., Squire R., John W., Nettie I., Charles H. and Martha A.  The family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
