McCOLLUM, A. J.; Farmer, Sec. 35, P. O. Galesburg; born in Beaver Co., Penn., Nov. 13, 1833, the day of the great meteoric shower; he located in Marion Co., Iowa, in 1854, and in this county in 1869.  He married Eliza RETNER, granddaughter of ex-Gov RETNER of Pennsylvania; she died in 1867.  He married his second wife, Mary E. HAYES, in 1870; she was born in Russell Co., Ky., in 1852; their children are Andrew C., Harlan C. and Fanny Prudence.  They are Baptists; he is a Republican.  He owns 211 � acres of land, valued at $30 per acre.  He enlisted in the 33rd Iowa V. I., and was Sgt. of Co. G; was mustered out Aug. 8, 1865, having served three years as a national soldier. Is Justice of the Peace; served one term as such before, also as Township Trustee.  He is engaged in producing a Northern peach from the seed, and has some fine specimens of those peaches in his orchard.

Kellogg; born in Windsor Co., Vt., in 1817; located in Morgan Co., Ill., in 1840; in Johnson Co., Iowa, in 1843; in Iowa Co. in 1845, and in this county in 1875.  Married Elizabeth DOUSKIN in 1847; she was born in Canada in 1829; their children are Emma, Lucy, Clara, Frank, Louisa, and Samuel by a former marriage. They are Baptists; he is a Republican.  Owns 120 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre.

Y., in 1818; moved to Highland Co., Ohio, in 1840, and to Fayette in 1858, to Clinton in 1865, and to this county in 1867.  Married M. MOBBERLY in 1849; he died in 1875; her children living are Elizbeth E. (now widow) SHARP, Armante A., Harriet I., Mary F. Are members of the M. E. Church.  She owns 160 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre. Mrs. SHARP married her late husband in 1861, he died in 1865; she has one child--Anna L., born Feb. 22, 1863.

MOLER, J. W.; Farmer; Sec. 20; P. O. Newton.

MORGAN, Ryan; Farmer, Sec. 15, P. O. Kellogg; born in Lee Co., Ill., in 1835; moved to Poweshiek Co., Iowa, in 1855; located in this county in 1868.  Married Amanda ROBERTSON in 1860; she was born in Niagara Co., N. Y. in 1839; their children are William B., Margie I., Ryan G., Edith A., Amanda J., Harriet A., Fannie A., Mary A. and T. R.  Mr. MORGAN is a Greenback in politics.  He enlisted in the 15th I. V. I., in 1864, Co F.; accompanied Sherman on his celebrated march to the sea; was present at the grand review at Washington in May 24, 1865 (his own birthday) and was mustered out in 1865, at Louisville, Ky.  He owns 160 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre.

MORGART, Boltzer; Farmer, Sec. 2, P. O. Kellogg; born in Bedford, Co., Penn., in 1817; moved to Henry Co., Ill., in 1853, and located in this county in 1875.  He married Edney ROBY in 1840; she was born in Washington Co., Md., in 1817; two children---Fransis T. and Peter F.  Mrs. MORGART died in 1854.  He married his second wife C. C. LOGAN, in 1857; she was born in Bedford Co., Penn., in 1833; their children are Alice R. V., William A., Sarah E., Charles, Newton J., Edward, Mary E., Margaret E., Lucy A. and Harry.  Are members of the United Brethren Church; he is a Democrat.  Owns eighty-two acres of land, valued at $40 per acre.

MOORE, A.; Farmer, Secs. 11 and 12; P.O. Kellogg; born in Fulton Co., N. Y., in 1822; moved to Rochester, N. Y. in 1846, and to Mason Co., Ill., in 1871, and located in this county in 1873.  He married Miss Martha BROWN in 1847; she was born in Madison Co., N. Y., in 1826; they have one child, an accomplished young lady, born March 28, 1855.  Mrs. MOORE is a member of the Methodist Church; he is a Republican in politics.  He organized Co. F, 105th New York V. I., in the Spring of 1862, and commanded it in many engagements during the war of the rebellion, including South Mountain, Va., under Banks, Second Bull Run, Va., South Mountain, Md., Antietam and Fredericksburg, Va.; in the last-named battle he was the ranking officer of his brigade effective for duty, and commanded his regiment in that battle; he was promoted to the rank of Major, and at the consolidation of his regiment with the 94th N. Y., he resigned in favor of the Major of that regiment; he had temporary command of Gen. DURYEA's brigade during the absence of that officer.  He owns one-half interest in the farm he now manages, which contains 720 acres; he is seeding it down with a view of making a first-class stock farm of it.

MURPHY, J. W.; Farmer, Sec 8; P.O. Newton;  born in Highland Co., Ohio, in 1825; located his land in this county in 1856, and moved here in 1857.  He married Miss A. E. RUSSELL in 1847; she was born in Buckingham Co., Va., in 1830; their children are Laura A., John W., Cyntha P., Zillah J., Hamer E. and Bower T.  Are members of the M. E. Church, and Greenback in politics.  Has been Justice of the Peace two years, and School Director from 1858 to 1876, and President of the Board several terms.  Owns 320 acres, valued at $40 per acre.  He is Past Master of Subordinate Grange of Buena Vista Tp., 544; has been Deputy Master of State Grange P. H., four years, and Lecturer of Iowa State Grange P. of H., and a member of Masonic Order twenty-eight years; High Priest of Gebel Chapter two years.

Newton;  born in Buckingham Co., Va., in 1827; moved to Highland Co., Ohio, when a child with his parents, thence to Memphis, Tenn., in 1860, and to this county in 1861.  Married Margaret RAYBURN in 1860; she was born in Highland Co., Ohio, in 1830; their children are Samuel R., Eliza J., George W., Thomas G., Charles A. and Julia M.  Mr. RUSSELL had three children by a former marriage--Mary E., James M., John W.  They are members of the Methodist Church at Hixon Grove; he is a Democrat.  Was Township Trustee three terms; School Director several terms, two of which he was President of the Board; owns 120 acres of land, valued at $35 per acre.

RUSSELL, S. G.; Farmer, Sec 9, P.O. Newton; born in Highland Co., Ohio in 1834; located in this county in 1865.  Married Miss M. A. MOBERLY in 1856; she was born in Highland Co., Ohio, in 1837; their children are Frank H., Mary B., Netty P., Robt. H., M. A., Catherine E., Virginia I., Fanny G., Oliver M.  Are members of the M. E. Church; he is a Democrat.  Owns 213 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre. Mr. RUSSELL is an energetic and skillful farmer.

F., born in 1853.  Mrs. SAUM died in 1855.  Married his second wife, Marietta BORHOUGHT, in 1856; she was born in Virginia; their children are William E., Charley F., Emma, Sylvia and Manfred.  Mrs. M. SAUM died in 1867.  He married his third wife, Annie WILSON, in 1869; their two children are Kate and Jay; Mrs. Annie SAUM was born in Westmoreland Co., Penn.  Mr. SAUM is a descendant in a direct line from Nicholas SAUM, who located in the Shenandoah Valley, Va., prior to the Revolution, and who had a son killed in that war, fighting for American liberty.  He owns 1,000 acres, valued at $40 per acre.

STANLEY, Temple B.; Farmer, Sec. 2, P. O. Kellogg; born in Guilford Co., North Carolina, in 1802; located in this county in 1865; commenced life on a capital of natuiral ability, energy and determination, united to a pair of strong and willing arms.  He worked for $5 a month, out of which he clothed himself, purchased books, and supplied his other necessities.  In 1827, he married a poor young girl, Mary WRIGHT; she died in March of the same year.  He married his second wife, Annie LYON, in he following Winter-- being a bachelor, husband, widower and husband again all in one year; they have five children living-- Mary, Eliza A., Henry C., Oliver H. and Ann M.  Mrs. STANLEY died in March, 1866.  Married his third wife,  Mrs. LINDSEY (EDWARDS) in 1866; she was born in Schoharie Co., N. Y., in 1821; she is a member of the M. E. Church; he is a Republican; owns 146 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre.
