Newton; born in Marion Co., Iowa, in 1846; located in this county when small.  Married Hattie EVENS in 1868; she was born in South Wales, Great Britain, in 1843; their children are Everett and Arnott.  Members of the M. E. Church.  He enlisted in the 48th Regt. of Iowa 100-day men, and re-enlisted into the 7th Iowa V. C. in 1864; mustered out in 1865.  Was Road Supervisor.  Owns 160 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre.

AYDELOTTE, B.; Superintendent of Jasper Co. Poor Farm and County House; born in North Carolina in 1815; located in this county in 1845.  Married Miss Jane CHEW in 1859; she was born in Ross Co., Ohio; their children are Myrtle L. and Lillie May; he has also Jesse P. and Winfield S., by a former marriage.  Are members of the Congregational Church; he is a Republican.  He owns property in Newton valued at $2,500.  He has been Superintendent of the County House two years, which is conducted in a systematic and economical manner under his supervision.

BEVAN, S. T.; Farmer, Sec. 3, P. O. Kellogg; born in Belmont Co., Ohio, in 1837; moved to Logan Co. when a boy, thence to Marshall Co. with his mother in 1855, and located in this county in 1856.  He was converted to religion in Logan Co., Ohio, at an early age, and became a member of the Friends' Society, but soon fell away from his duties as a soldier of Christ, and remained an outcast from the consolation of religion until 1870, when he responded to the call of his Creator, and reunited himself to his Church and again enrolled in the army of the Lord; he is a sincere and faithful worker in his Society, and looking upon all Christian denominations as brothers, he feels and acts as a brother toward them.  He started in life a poor boy, but by adopting a course of strict integrity, honesty and studious attention to his business, he has acquired a competency. He married Miss Sarah HODSON in 1862; she was born in Missouri in 1841.  He owns fifty-four acres of land, valued at $45 per acre.

V. I and served with his regiment till mustered out at the expiration of term of enlistment.  Jasper B. enlisted in the 20th I. V. I.; served his three years; mustered out at the close of the war; both of these young men have honorable military records.

MOBERLY in 1866; she was born in Highland Co., Ohio, in 1861; their children are Charlie L., and Carrie M.  They are members of the Methodist Church; he is a Republican.  Owns 120 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre.  He enlisted in the 24th Ohio Battery in 1863; mustered out in 1865; was in charge of prisoners part of the time at Johnston's Island.

Newton; born in this county in 1853; he is a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Keokuk; he commenced practicing medicine in 1875; he is a promising young physician, with a rapidly growing practice, the result of promptness and attention to his customers, coupled with a practical knowledge of his business; he is the only physician in this county a native born son of the soil, and the sixth physician of his name in the United States.  He married Miss Emma DOOLY in 1876.
