Honorable L. N. VAN SANDT, of Clarinda, Page County , was born in Brown County , Ohio , May 7, 1825 . He received an academical education and studied medicine, graduating at the Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati , in 1850. During eight years he was subsequetly engaged in the practice of his profession in Troy , Ohio . He came to Iowa in 1858, and settled in Clarinda, where he has continued to practice medicine ever since.

Dr. Van Sandt has by no means confined himself to practice as a physician, but has taken an active part in agricultural matters, and to some extent in politics.

In 1863 he was elected to represent his county in the General Assembly, and re-elected to fill an unexpired term in 1866. The securing and building of the Nodaway Valley Railroad via Clarinda was largely due to the efforts of Dr. Van Sandt. He is at present engaged in the drug business, farming, horticulture and the practice of medicine.
