Obituary Jake Milford Vandaveer Sr.

 

Fairfax - Jake Milford Vandaveer Sr., former Ponca City and Blackwell area resident, died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 7, 2001, in the Fairfax Memorial Hospital. He was 76.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2001, in the IOOF Cemetery of Ponca City with the Rev. John Newland, evangelist with The House of Prayer, officiating. Burial is under direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Friends may visit the funeral home until 9 p.m. Thursday after which the casket will be closed. Members of the American Legion Post 14 will perform the flag presentation.

Jake Milford Vandaveer was born on Aug. 25, 1924, in Pleasant Plains., Ark., the son of William Henry and Edna Grace (Riggs) Vandaveer. At the age of seven, the family moved to Lexington, Okla., and he graduated from Lexington High School. On Dec. 28 1946, he married Elizabeth Rosa Sidman-Reisch in Kansas City, Mo. He was a custodian by trade and worked for several buisnesses in the Ponca City/Blackwell area. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the army 18 years. He enjoyed being with his family, gardening and planting flowers, rose bushes and various types of trees. 

Surviors include his wife of the home in Fairfax; three dauthers, Laura Ruth Riggle of Newkirk, Helen Marie Vandaveer of Ponca City and and Elizabeth Rosa ''Betty'' Barker of Blackwell; four sons, Ivan Lee Riggle of Noble, Marvin Dewayne Vandaveer of Fairfax, Jake Milford Vandaveer Jr. of Blackwell and Johney Vandaveer of Ponca City; three brothers, Woodrow Vandaveer, William Billy Vandaveer and Marvin Dean Vandaveer; three sisters, June Ann Chambers, Rosa Vandaveer and Alma Thomas; 26 grandschildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; grandparents; one infant son, Billy Ray Vandaveer; and one sister, Gladys Cox.

The family will be at 2054 McCord Road to receive friends and family.
