Governor Hincks asked Governor Keate of Trinidad whether he would make a commitment to take 750 immigrants. Trinidad responded positively and British Guiana undertook to accept the other 1,250 beginning in the 1864-65 season. By the time the season was in full swing, Sampson [the Emigration Agent in Canton] received a communication saying that the British Guiana requirement had been increased to 1,500, i.e. exclusive of women and children.
