You really have to see the Millwood Ruins to fully appreciate them. Nothing prepares you for the sheer size of the remaining columns. This home of General Wade Hampton III was burned when General Sherman raided Columbia, South Carolina on February 17, 1865. If you are going to be in the Columbia area, the ruins can be toured by appointment on the last Sunday of each month from March to October. The address is Millwood Ruins, Garner's Ferry Road, Columbia, SC 29209 or phone (803) 252-1770. |
