These two images show a bay near Waiwera in 1872 and 140 years later in 2012. On the left is a watercolour by Mary Ann Waymouth painted on 10 January 1872. Mary Ann was 25 years old at the time, having been born in London in August 1846 On the right is a photo taken by Ray Turner on 15 April 2012. Waiwera is a hot spring resort on the East coast 35 km North of Auckland, New Zealand. The Waymouths would have travelled to Waiwera from Auckland by boat, possibly their own. |
