Englebert BERNER arrived in New York City around 1893. He is reported to have come from Dormettingen, Germany, a small village in the region of Wurttemberg. He soon married Katriiana Weissenberger; she was reported to be from the Baveria region of Germany. They first settled in Brooklyn (Kings), New York; but soon migrated to East Haddam (Middlesex), Connecticut. Englebert BERNER was the son of Wendel and Leogarth (Bertsch) Berner of Dormettingen, Germany. He was the oldest of ten, 6 reached adulthood: Englebert b 26 Jul 1870 Thomasina b 11 Jul 1872 Agatha b 12 May 1874 Josepha b 30 Aug 1876 Margarethe b 6 Feb 1878 Petronilla b 29 May 1882 It is not known if other siblings came to America. It is known that Margarethe remained in Germany.
