    The Douglas County Museum of History & Natural History has a collection of over 22,000 photographs, several hundred manuscript collections and over 2,000 other pieces of printed material. Much of this information is useful to genealogists. All of the photographs and an increasing portion of manuscript records are searchable on an internal database. GENEALOGICAL COUNCIL OF OREGON

      The Genealogical Council of Oregon is the statewide organization. It consists of individual genealogists and societies from around the state.

      The goals of the Council are to:

      • Serve as a clearing house through which information may be exchanged concerning projects, programs, and publications of genealogical and historical interest.
      • Maintain records indicating the location and availability of information of genealogical and historical interest.
      • Promote reasonable open access to public records.

      Membership in the Council is on a calendar year basis and is open to any individual, genealogical society, or non-profit organization interested in the purposes of the Council. There are two membership meetings annually, the third Saturday of April and October. The meetings are held in various cities throughout the state.

      The Council publishes a Newsletter that contains information about genealogical societies, resources, and publications.

      The Council sponsors the only state-wide genealogical conference. This year it will be in Salem at the Quality Inn on October 4th, 5th, and 6th. Myra Vanderpool Ghormley is the featured speaker.

      Dues: $10.00 per year.

      The Oregon Historic Cemeteries Assoc. was formed to provide services to individuals and organizations throughout the state. Our long-term goals include an all-name database of Oregon burials and a microfilming project which will make cemetery and funeral records more readily available to researchers. Our newsletters and other publications provide useful how-to information on such subjects as listing cemeteries, gravestone restoration, and availability of related publications. Our annual meeting is held on the second Saturday in March. Other meetings are in July and November. Locations vary throughout the state. Membership in the Oregon Historic Cemeteries Assoc. is open to all individuals and organizations interested in working to preserve the past for the future. Membership is $15.00 per year.

ROGUE VALLEY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

    SDOP is a non profit orgnization founded June 13,1901, basically for the preservation and promotion of Oregon history. Membership is open to anyone who's family came to Oregon before 14 Feb 1859. To qualify for membership must be able to prove when your ancestor's came to Oregon, like a Donation Land Claim number. Membership fee is ten dollar's a year plus a one time fee of ten dollr's for a membership certificate, if you want one. There are lower fee's for junior member's.
