Records
of the GCHS....
Throughout its history,
the Society has worked to preserve and document the history of Greene
County, Missouri. These efforts are part of the archives of the
Society. Housed in the Special Collections and Archives Department
at Missouri State University, the collection is available to researchers
from both on- and off-campus.
In five boxes, researchers
will find the official records of the Society, divided into six
groups or series. The series include Articles and By-Laws;
Meeting Minutes; Legal/Financial; Membership Information; Publications
of the Society; and Subject Files.
In addition, there is
one box of archival materials that were given to the organization
over the years. Under the series Research Files, researchers
will find a variety of items, including photographs, some newspapers,
interviews with local historians, and research compiled on assorted
topics.
The records of the Society
are not necessarily complete. If former officers have correspondence,
minutes, treasurers reports or other items of potential interest,
please contact Anne Baker, Archivist at MSU. She can be reached
at 417-836-4298 or by email.

Recent donations
In 2009 the Society received
two panoramic photographs that will be added to the archival collection.
They have also been scanned and are available here.
- The first shows students
at Springfields York School in 1927.
- The second shows employees
of the Springfield Traction Company shortly before streetcar service
was discontinued on August 29, 1937. A number below each name
indicates years of service.
