A Sad Death

Mrs. J. E. Smith died at her home on Whitesville street in this city at 3 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, after a short illness of typhoid fever. The tidings of her death has brought profound sorrow to the hearts of many people, as she has spent most of her life in this county. She moved two years ago from Odessadale, and by her many noble traits of character she has won the love of all our people. The deceased was about 56 years of age and is survived by her husband, eight sons and one daughter, besides a host of other sorrowing relatives.

Mrs. Smith was a devout member of the Christian church, and by her death the church and community have sustained an immeasurable loss. She was faithful in the small things of life and has given us an example truly worthy of emulation. God, in His Infinite wisdom, has seen fit to call this good woman from labor to rest, and there in what land where sickness and death enter not, she is waiting the coming of [illegible]

[illegible] conducted at Pharr Bros. & Childs Co.'s private undertaking parlors, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Davis, of Chipley, officiating. The following gentlemen were pall-bearers: T.W. Cunningham, J.G. Wright, W.J. Hardy, F.L. Blackmon, Joe Harris, and Dick Crawford. Interment was made in Hill View cemetery, immediately following the services.

A sad feature of Mrs. Smith's death is that her husband and one son are critically ill, being unable to attend the last sad rites conducted over the remains of the beloved wife and mother of the family.

Profound sympathy is extended the grief stricken family.
