Provided by [email protected]

James Morgan married Jane Evans. They were Quakers from Radner Township, Wales. They set sail with children and some grand-children for America in 1691.(3) Both died enroute and are buried at the head of the bay of Bohemia on the western shore of Maryland.

Their children were David, Thomas, Margaret, John, Evan, and James. James is the line from which the Effingham and Screven County Morgan's descend.

(4) James married Eleanora Cadwalter in Wales. They settled in Radnor Tshp.,Bucks Co., Penn., on 450 acres. Their children were Cadwalader, Morgan Lewis(my line), John and James.

(3) Lewis died in Effingham County, Ga. Georgia history indicates this era was the peak migration of Welsh families from the northern colonies into Ga. They had already begun to leave Penn., moving into Virginia, Maryland, NC,SC, then Ga. The SC 1790 Census lists 43 Morgan families. They were equally numerous in NC records. Many were known cousins. The earliest Morgan settler in Effingham Co. was James Morgan and his farm. The D.A.R. Morgan and Allied Families described John as the founder of the Morgan's of Effingham Co.
