Comments: Comments: I left this query about a year ago but the original email address is now defunct. If you have tried to respond, please try again--I am reposting with my new address. In the early eighteen hundreds, a large group of DORSEY's moved to northeast Georgia from around Burke and Lincoln Counties, NC. Apparently they got lucky in the Cherokee Land Lottery. In 1860, my great-great grandfather, E. H. DORSEY was living in Walhalla, SC with his wife Louisa (BOUKNIGHTt) and son John A. According to family lore, E. H. got into some kind of trouble (possibly relating to the Civil War) and ran away and hid out with some of the DORSEY's in NE Georgia. Eventualy he moved on to Cumberland County, Tennessee where he lived out his life under the name HARVEY KELLEY. I have not been able to determine who E. H. DORSEY's parents were although I have several candidates. I think his grandparents were ELIJAH and DELILAH ASHE DORSEY from Burke County, NC who may have ended up in the Georgia, SC area also. I am hoping that someone may be able to help me tie E. H. DORSEY into the DORSEY family tree.

He moved to Raburn County and worked on the Railroad. He an Minnie who was from Macon,Co. N.C., settled on Boggs Mountain in Raburn County. My Grandfather, Harve Pearson Tyler, was one of the son's of Robert and Minnie. Robert was murdered and we (the family) do not have any information on who his parents were or where they were originally from. The only thing we do know is that he had a brother named Charlie (maybe Charles). If you have any information this would be greatly appeciated since it seems we have ran into a dead end.

Comments: DILLARD/LEE lines. Rabun County Library has our Dillard information. The annual Dillard Reunion is in town of Dillard. I am looking for anything on Elijah LEE probable father of Rhoda Lee that married John Dillard, Jr. The last information I have on them is that they were probably married about 1800 Buncombe Co, NC. I am looking into the old records of Buncombe Co, NC; Walton Co, GA 1803-10; and what is now Rabun Co, GA. I have been out of touch with all my DILLARD/LEE contacts for the last 6 years, as I slowly rebuilt my genealogy files after the destruction of Hurricane Anderw. Is there a DILLARD/LEE contact associated with the Rabun Library? Any contact is appreciated.

Comments: I am looking for information on my 2nd GGF, John KEENER, who was one of the early settlers of Rabun Co. He was born abt 1806 somewhere in NC. He married Margaret CROON (CRONE or CROAN?)on 23 Dec 1830 in Rabun Co. He is shown as an original settler who owned land during the 1820s (map, p. 27) in "Sketches of Rabun County History," and is shown holding various offices over the years, but is never discussed. Nor is he discussed among the KEENERS in "Rabun County, Georgia and Its People: Vol. I," except for his marriage to Margaret CROON. I am particularly interested in the identity of his parents, as well as his date and place of birth. I am also curious about the relationship (if any) between John KEENER and another early settler, Abraham KEENER, who is discussed extensively in both books.

Comments: In the early eighteen hundreds, a large group of DORSEY's moved to northeast Georgia from around Burke and Lincoln Counties, NC.

Comments: I need help to confirm that Dr. Bailey KERBY and Elizabeth SHERRILL are the parents of my GG-GF, Issac N. KERBY. In the 1840 census of Rabun Co., there were two sons between 15 and 20 years old living with Bailey KERBY. Since the 1840 census contains no names within the household, I have no way to confirm, but I believe them to be William Rufus KERBY (m. abt 1841) and Issac N. KERBY (m. 11/28/1849). In the 1850 census, which contains names, both of these older sons are gone from household of Bailey KERBY. Does anyone know how to confirm the names of two sons who disappeared between the 1840 and 1850 census?

Comments: I am looking for information on my grandfather, William Russell THOMAS. My mother's birth certificate gave her father's birth as Dec 7, 1864 in Rayburne County, Georgia. His mother, Abby THOMAS was claimed to be a full-blooded indian who died in a sage fire about the time William was 7 years. His father, Floyd THOMAS was said to spend more time away from home than at home. It is not known who raised William after the death of his mother. I am looking for any information I can find about William THOMAS prior to 1900.

Comments: I am seeking information on Kezzia Hicks. She was listed as one of the founding members of the "Head of the Tennessee" Baptist Church in Rabon County, Georgia. In 1840 a Kizzia Hicks is living in the next house to my ggg grandfather, Henry W. Hicks, in Floyd County, Georgia. She was 49 years old and living alone. I believe it is posssible that she could be the mother of my Henry W. Hicks. If so, what was her husband's name? Also Henry W. Hicks had a daughter who married a Hamby. I would like to correspond with anyone who has any information on this Hicks family or Hamby family. I can be reached at [email protected].
