BEASLEY, BIRD, ENGLISH, GREER, HAYNES, HUDSON, RAGAN  Annette Rose  11 Mar 1997

Robert BEASLEY (1740), bought land in Wilkes County, wife was Betty WILLINGHAM, whom he married 1862, Lunenburg County, Virginia. about 1790, William GREER (1748), son of Aquilla (about 1719), received land grant in Washington County, wife was Jane HAYNES, daughter of Henry HAYNES, Sr. (1701) John HUDSON married Mary BEASLEY 1782 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. John died 1790, left four children: Frederick, Rolin/Rowland, Mason Ward, and Elizabeth. Widow, Mary HUDSON married Seth WARD in 1793, and by 1800 was in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, where Seth became guardian of the boys, 1800 & 1801.

By 1805, Frederick had married Lucy GREER, daughter of William, above. Frederick and Lucy had John, William GREER, and Mary. Lucy's death location unknown, Frederick died Noxubee County, Mississippi after May 1841. ENGLISH ties into HAYNES; GREER Families then marries into BEASLEY where two daughters of William BEASLEY and Nancy ENGLISH married the two sons of Frederick and Lucy HUDSON. Families are known to be all three counties, then by 1837, most were in Noxubee County, Mississippi. Need family information on William BYRD/BIRD who married Mary HUDSON in June of 1826. Looking for their children's families, one named Frederick Hudson BIRD, one named William, one named John, a girl, Mary (?), and one named Elizabeth. Two of the sons married in Noxubee County.....

Need court documents on guardianship of three daughters of Jerimah RAGAN and Mary GREER, both deceased by Spring of 1827. Frederick HUDSON guardian in Georgia? Frederick is to have petetioned to remove Lucy S. RAGAN from Georgia, don't know which year. He was guardian in 1837 in Mississippi. What is the tie with all the BEASLEY's? Lucy GREER's brother, Abraham, married a Betsey BEASLEY, attributated to Robert (1740), no proof??? If that is so, she would a sister William BEASLEY.

Help. Please, any related lines/info. appriciated. Have much, need more.

CLAY  Susan Clay Cole  21 Aug 1997

Jesse Lorenzo CLAY Born approximately 1894 or before January 19, 1885 Died 1931 Buried in Los Angeles, California at Pierce Bros. Valhalla Cemetary. Married in Newton County, Texas 1916 to Vesey HARDY. This is all the information I have. On my dad's birth certificate, J. L. CLAY is listed born in Gerogia, age 33 "at last birthday". Dad was born on January 20, 1918. Hence my quess at the 1894 or 95 birthdate. While digging in the Newton County genealogy library just happened on an old tax book of sorts. The name and only a name "Jesse CLAY" was listed in Oglethorpe County. The date was approximately late 1700's. Just hoping that there was or is a connection.

My name is Susan Clay Cole.

COLQUITT, HAMPTON, BANKS  Gale M. Fuller  1 Feb 1997

I have several people who were to have been in Oglethorpe County. James Wales COLQUITT and his wife Margaret Temperance Susan HAMPTON moved from Virginia to Oglethorpe County where they died. I have the death dates as 26 October 1841 for him and 10 October 1863 for her. They are to have been buried in the Colquitt Cemetery. Do you have any idea where that could be?

This couple had 6 children but I only find information on the one we have as our ancestor, Jonathan COLQUITT. He was born in Virginia and married Sarah Susan BANKS either in Oglethrope or Upson County Georgia. He died in Upson County.

At some point Jonathan and his wife Sarah Susan BANKS lived in Oglethrope County as their son, William Howard COLQUITT was born there in 1825.

I feel like I have a lot of gray areas. Some I am not sure if they material I have is correct or not. I would appreciate any verification you can offer.

Thanks you so much for your assistance.

CUNNINGHAM, ANTHONY  Steve Cunningham  3 Mar 1997

Hi, I'm researching the CUNNINGHAM's of Oglethorpe County, Georgia. They came to Texas about 1880 from Lexington, Georgia. Somewhere while there, they married into the BURKHALTER Family. My Great Grandmother's maiden name was Mary Anne (or Anna) ANTHONY. The ANTHONY's were also from Oglethorpe County. Still a mystery to me why Johnson Franklin CUNNINGHAM pulled up roots in 1880, and came to Texas.

According to the 1870 Census, he declared property valued at $1500. Not a poor man. It's said that at that time, Texas was considered the Promised Land, and many emigrated here. I have the Family mostly complete in all following generations, after they came here. There are a few CUNNINGHAM's I can't locate, yet. If you have any resources to help, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks again.
Steve

DAVIS, SEMMES, BIGGERS  Robin Eisenhower  9 Apr 1997

Hello, My name is Robin Eisenhower and I am requesting your help in information about my family. I am specifically looking for any connection to the Jefferson F. DAVIS family, as I have been told that we are distantly related. Here is the information I have. If you can go further back to find what foreign country we came from, that would also be helpful. I would also be interested in any interesting, amusing or otherwise, anecdotes regarding to my family and their actions. I would be most interested in finding out how Uncle Twitt got his name! I appreciate any assistance you can give me in this matter.

Isham DAVIS was my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. It seems he served in the Revolutionary War and was given bounty land in Oglethorpe County for his service. He had a son named Pryor Lansford DAVIS, born 2/6/1813 and died 6/2/1890. I do not have information on brothers or sisters. He was an extensive slave holder and plantation owner in the county. It has been said that the house slaves led Pryor's second wife, Jerusha BIGGERS, and the younger children to safety during Sherman's March. I have been told that all the buildings on the property, save the slave quarters, were burned. Pryor had several children: married Elizabeth SEMMES- (during 1850 census of 66th Division)
     James age 15
Ison Jackson (or Isom or Isham) age 13 (died in Shelby County, Texas)
Sarah age 11 (married Julius Garrett)
William age 9 (killed in 7 days fight around Richmond)
Mary age 7 (married and spent her life in Georgia)
     Charles age 5
     Robert age 3
Zachariah age 6 months (my gr-grandfather)

an 1860 Census showed the following in residence
married Jerusha BIGGERS-
Charles age 14 (killed in Battle of Williamsburg)
     Mary age 16
Zachariah age 10 (moved to Center, Texas)
John age 6 (moved to Bivins, Texas) as
Nathan age 1 (he was nicknamed Uncle Stump for losing both arms in the War)(became a prominent man in Andersonville)

There is also mention of other children: Wylie- died in New Orleans and was a legislator Henry B.- nicknamed Uncle Twitt, became a prominant man in Andersonville. Both these children were Elizabeth SEMMES'

There is a story that Pryor served after the War as a member of the Louisiana Assembly and kicked down the door of the House when the Carpetbag Legislature was expelled by the Democrats of the State. Isom Jackson enlisted as a 2nd Lt. Company K 66th Georgia Regiment of Infantry during the War. He enlisted as a Sergeant and was wounded July 2, 1864. Both Robert and Isom are believed to be Confederate pensioners.

I am also looking for the location of the plantation and family graveyard, if any. It was said that Pryor's grave was in the family cemetary, not too far from the house.

Any information you can provide will be most helpful. From what I have heard from family members, we have a colorful family history and it is certainly exciting to me to see history come alive in my ancestors and their deeds. You can e-mail me at [email protected] or snail mail me:

EAST, ELKINS, GARROTT  Cathy Farris  26 Dec 1996

EAST, Elizabeth born 1762 in Virginia. Married William ELKINS in Henry County, Virginia 1783. I need proof of her parents. I believe them to be James EAST, Sr. and wife Eussan. They all lived in Henry County, Virginia then moved to Oglethorpe County, Georgia.

William ELKINS and James EAST were on a few land records together so I think James is father to Elizabeth. The problem is she died about 1809 in Beaver Dam Oglethorpe. She outlived her father. So she is not named in his will. I don't have his will, would like to know where he died.

My ancestor Erwin ELKINS is son of Elizabeth and William ELKINS. After the death of Elizabeth EAST, William married Amelia GARROTT in 1814 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia.

Exodus from Oglethorpe County  Park Gerdine  26 Mar 1997

In the 1840's I have found records of several families, including my great grandfather who left Oglethorpe County and moved to Mississippi. I have been unable to determine the reason for the move. As my ancestor was a planter, I wonder if it had anything to do with climate of soil conditions. Do you have any information?

FARRAR, BARNETT  Lavin F. Farrar  11 Dec 1996

John S. FARRAR. He married Dorcas BARNETT in Oglethorpe County on March 7, 1799. Several children were born. One son named James Wade FARRAR born circa 1805 in Oglethorpe County. A possible daughter born, Martha Ann FARRAR, born ca 1800 in Oglethorpe County. Found on 1798 Tax Digest in same county. Know nothing about John S. FARRAR prior to 1798. He deceased 1820 or before. His family was found in Morgan County about 1820. Would appreciate new information if someone can add to what is already known.

John S. FARRER was in Oglethorpe County, at least from 1798-1810 as evidenced by marriage record, federal census and tax records. He was listed in the 1804 Land Lottery, by drawing #1076 and with two draws. Would there be any county records showing this land grant if he was a successful recipient of a drawing? Phoeby FARRER was listed on this 1804 Land Lottery, by drawing #1023, two draws and a widow. Was she a relative of John S. FARRAR and did she get a land grant through this 1804 land lottery? Any information on either of these individuals would be appreciated.

GARRETT, GARROTT, LESTER, CLARK    Cathy Farris  26 Dec 1996

GARRETT, James born about 1771 in Virginia. Married Amelia (Mealy) LESTER about 1794 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. She is daughter of Amelia CLARK LESTER CHEATHAM, widow of Josiah CHEATHAM who died 1793 in Chesterfield.

I have been searching for the father of James GARRETT and I believe him to be John GARROTT of Chesterfield County, Virginia who was named on the will of Issac GARROT in 1775. There were two sons of John named, Samuel and James.

If I can connect my James GARRETT who died in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in 1811 ( I have his will) I will be able to connect to the GARROTT line that dates back to early 1600's.

I have not been able to locate a marriage for James GARROTT and Amelia LESTER in Chesterfield. They may have been married in a surrounding county, also the records may have been destroyed. I have made a map of all the deeds with the involved names, CHEATHAM, GARROTT, LESTER, CLARK, they all lived next to each other in Chesterfield. I feel I am almost to the connect. If...if...if...I can connect James to John.

Can anyone help with one of these names or a lead?? Thank you.

HAYLES, HAILES, HAILS, HALES, HAYLE, HAILE, HAIL, HALE  Steve Hale  16 Mar 1997

Howdy Cousins!

I'm searching for the relationship of my 6th great-grandfather Rev. James HAILES (HAYLES, HALES, HAYLE, HAILE, HAIL, HALE) to the HALES in Oglethorpe County, Georgia from 1790 to 1820. My James HALE was born 1778 Johnston County, North Carolina moved to Oglethorpe County, Georgia in 1790's, fought in War of 1812 married to Elizabeth ___ before 1805 (possibly Betsey HAIL in Aug 1802). Moved to Clarke County, Georgia before 1820. Moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1821. Founded Camp Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Lilburn, Georgia died in 1855. Christopher and Betty HAILES married too late (1805) to be his parents (they had a son James also). Rev. Isiaih HAILES, also a Primitive Baptist preacher could have been his father, brother, uncle, or cousin.

Any Primitive Baptist Church minutes from Clouds Creek, Bethany, or Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church would possibly help. Anyone with records of children of Isiaih, Obediah, Moab, Joshua, William, Matthew, James, or John would be a big help. Maybe I can rule out some links.

Greatly beholdin t'ya for any help!

HOWARD, FARRAR, HARTSFIELD, Family Cemetery  Kathryn J. Hatcher   12 Jan 1997

We have an old farm in north Oglethorpe County. The families of Able HOWARD and his mother Pricilla FARRAR HOWARD (a first cousin of Thomas Jefferson) may like to know that these two were buried here in 1808. The farm includes a 1784 log cabin (still standing) built by Able HOWARD and his brother. The log cabin is the first (and probably oldest) house described in the book "Housing of Oglethorpe County, 1790-1860" by Ava D. Rodgers.

The family of Berry HARTSFIELD (ancestor of Mayor HARTSFIELD of Atlanta, for whom the airport was named -- or so I'm told) lived at this farm, probably in the log cabin, from circa 1808 - 1853 and perhaps until 1912. The records of Millstone Baptist Church in Oglethorpe County show that Berry HARTSFIELD died in 1853. When I first walked into the cabin in 1993, a 1934 calendar was still hanging on the wall.

JENKS, THOMPSON  Chuck Ritchey  26 May 1997

Linnie married Bridges B. THOMPSON 23 September 1824 in Madison County; the first time I find them was in the 1830 census of Oglethorpe County, and again in the 1840 census of Oglethorpe County; after that, they appeared in the census of the neighboring county of Madison.

Linnie and Bridges had the following children, all born in Georgia:

    1. Sarah Ann Susan THOMPSON, born 21 Jan 1826; married Isaac BURROUGHS
    2. Thomas Berry THOMPSON, born 24 May 1827; married Martha America PATTERSON
    3. James Andrew THOMPSON, born 19 Apr 1829; married Susan Amanda BOLTON
    4. William Sidner THOMPSON, born 12 Mar 1831; never married
    5. Abner Jackson THOMPSON, born 22 Apr 1833; married Mary Mildred HART
    6. Joel Burton THOMPSON, born 15 May 1835; married Margaret Elizabeth MORRIS
    7. Caroline Francis THOMPSON, born 2 Oct 1837; married John E BURROUGHS
    8. Cynthia Elizabeth THOMPSON, born 7 Jun 1840; married George Allen MORRIS
    9. David Bridges THOMPSON, born 23 Sep 1847; married 1. Ursley Harriet HARTSFIELD, married 2. Mary F. THOMPSON, married 3. Ola KING
    10. Mary Elmira THOMPSON, born 16 May 1851; married Hawkins BULLOCK

The only clue I've found about her parents is a marriage record of William JINKS and Betsey KING, married 23 August 1805 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia; I have not been able to confirm that these two were her parents.

I would appreciate any information you might have about JENKS/JINKS families in the Oglethorpe County area. Thank you very much.

LEE  Everard H. Lee  22 Dec 1996

LEE and Sally had a son, Thomas Jefferson LEE, on November 27, 1826 while in Oglethorpe County. Thomas Jefferson LEE married Mary Jane BAIRD on December 16, 1854. Thomas J. Thomas McLAIN, William McLAIN, and Lewis PIERCE are also on the 1800 Oglethorpe County, Georgia census. Thomas and William both have female children who would be the right age to be my Nancy McLAIN. I would love to hear from anyone who may have information about these families.

Thanks,

McKAY, JONES  Steve Spears  20 Mar 1997

Looking for information on John Calvin McKAY. Some sources state he was born in Oglethorpe, Georgia in 1833. He married Sallie or Sarah JONES also of Oglethorpe, Georgia. He later moved to Dale County, Alabama and is found in the 1860 Census. I have found no earlier census with him listed.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

MARRS  Gaylon West  9 Mar 1997

Looking for any and all information on the MARRS Family.

Katherine MARRS was listed as being born in Wilkes County in 1784. However, on a scouting expedition during the summer of 1996, I found that the area of Wilkes County that they lived in, is now in Oglethorpe County.

I visited the County Courthouse in Lexington the county seat of Oglethorpe County and found that most all of the County Courthouse documents that date back any time at all, were in deploreable shape.

I am interested in finding out if there are records of Oglethorpe County that might contain Courthouse type records in another area. I hope that I will be back in Oglethorpe County again this year, but I don't know exactly when that will be.

I am also interested in the reason why Wilkes County was so prominant in the late 1700's.

I found out that Hugh MARRS was in a Captain Diamond's Company in the late 1700's and from that information determined that he was indeed in what is now become Oglethorpe County .

Any information or records on the MARRS family in that area in the early days, would be of great interest to me.

Thank you so very much for your time.

With warmest regards, I am :

Again thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Best always

Gaylon

Hi: I am looking for any info on the MARTIN family of Oglethorpe County.

Williford MARTIN grew up in Oglethorpe County and died there in 1826. He married Melissa DOWDEN (I've also seen Dowdy) who was also born and raised in Oglethorpe County, where she also died in 1880. Alexander Lafayette MARTIN was born on December 24, 1824, also in Oglethorpe County. What I am specifically looking for is the exact death and birthdates of Williford and Melissa DOWDEN MARTIN, any land record info, where they are buried, living relatives, things like that. Thanks in advance to anyone who offers any assistance in my search.

Migration from Oglethorpe County to Mississippi  Park Gerdine  30 Dec 1997

On a recent visit to Mississippi I learned the reason that in the late 1830's and early 1840's there was a significant migration from the southeastern coastal states to Mississippi. The soil had been depleted of nutriants but most important, a treaty was signed with the Indians so for the first time Americans were permitted to buy land west of the Tombigbee River. This rich farm land sold for 25 an acre. My great grandfather as well as many of his neighbors moved to Lowndes County during this period.

This may be of interest to some researchers.

MORGAN  John Robinson  17 Apr 1997

Searching for the parents of William H. MORGAN born 1819 in Georgia. He moved to Carroll County in 1852 from Oglethorpe County. His wife was named Susan M._____ and was born in 1821 in Georgia. In 1860 Census they had the following children: Mary E., age 20; John Thomas, age 15 (my ancestor); William H., age 10; Richard, age 4.

Many of this family and descendants moved to Cullman, Alabama early 1900's and are buried there.

Can anyone give me a clue as to who are the parents of William H. MORGAN and his wife, Susan M. Did they marry in Oglethorpe County? Living next door to them in 1860 Census is William GARRISON, age 75 and wife Mary, age 68, also Prudence, age 35 and John G., age 24--are they possibly the parents of Susan M.?? Would appreciate any help from anyone in this search for my MORGAN ancestors from Oglethorpe County.

PYLE  Doris Pyle Haynes  8 Aug 1997

John and Samuel PYLE were in Oglethorpe County, listed on the 1800 Census. It is thought that they had come to this county in the late 1790's from South Carolina. John married Mary MAXWELL and Samuel married Charity EASON, don't know when/where they married. Can anyone tell me if there are records that go back that far to document information on them? They drew in several of the Cherokee Land Lotteries, but that does not give me information on who their parents were, where they came from or when they married. Any help will be appreciated.

RHODES  Barbara Rhodes  16 Mar 1997

I am searching for information about a Thomas RHODES who (according to "Georgia Baptists", published 1874) served as pastor of the County Line Baptist Church beginning in 1802. He was reputedly an eloquent and persuasive preacher, but given to enjoying the temptations of the flesh, and was ultimately defrocked and shunned. As executor of several wills, he was frequently called into court for explain inconsistencies. And I believe he may have been the father of my elusive ancestor, Lemuel B. RHODES. Other children of Thomas RHODES were Heflin B., Samuel T., James, Richard and Gracie, who married Daniel MORGAN in Oglethorpe County. Thomas RHODES was in Greene County in 1823 and he died in Jasper County in 1832.

I will be most grateful for ANY information about this man.

Thank you,

My oldest SORRELLS ancestor is Richard SORRELLS, born about 1744, Virginia and his wife, Mildred SNEAD, born about 1746, who married somewhere in Virginia abt 1773, and had two known children, William Alexander SORRELLS, born about 1774, Virginia and died prior to May 1841, Walton County, Georgia, according to estate records and land records. William married Dorcas SANDERS on 20 October 1797, Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Dorcas was born in Surry County, North Carolina, 21 November 1779, the daughter of Sarah TULLY and James SANDERS, Sr. who came to Oglethorpe County after the 1790 Surry County, North Carolina census in which they were found. The other child of Richard and Mildred was Charles SORRELLS, born December 1776, Virginia and died 12 July 1854, Walton County, Georgia.

He married (1) Elizabeth JONES, daughter of Anne BEASLEY and Russell JONES, who came to Georgia in early 1790's from Wilkes County, North Carolina, but who originated in Albemarle, Virginia. Richard SORRELLS served in the Revolution from Salisbury District of which Surry County was a part, so I looked at the tax lists 1782 and found him there in Captain Humphries' District and James SANDERS, Sr. was found there in numerous deeds and land entries. Surry County Deeds were searched and found no deeds or land entries for Richard, although he did have 100 acres in the tax list. The only record I have found for him and his sons together was the undated Elbert County, Georgia tax list (which was about 1797) In April 1800, Richard bought 126 1/2 acres from James COLBERT, land on Scullshoal Creek, Elbert County, Georgia. This land fell into Oglethorpe County later and Madison County, Georgia later on when county borders were changed.

Anyway, this Richard has numerous descendants today in Madison and in Walton County where Charles and William went about 1835 or so. Mildred died in Georgia about 1836. I would like to find out who his parents were and where in Virginia they came from. More information is available for anyone interested. In 1985 I published Our Southern Ancestors which details Richard and Mildred's descendants. I have done some general research in Virginia on SNEAD's and SORRELLS', but have been unable to find where my ancestors fit in.

STUBBLEFIELD  Ronal Stubblefield  27 Oct 1997

Hi, I'm looking for anything on who the parents of William Henry STUBBLEFIELD were. William was born on January 1, 1793. He was born in Wilkes County but I believe sense Wilkes County was originally much bigger and was later split up into many Counties that William and his parents were originally from Oglethorpe sense other relatives seem to be buried in Oglethorpe. William Henry STUBBLEFIELD died December 1, 1858 in Yazoo County Mississippi and is buried in the Black Jack Cemetery in Yazoo. We have come to a dead end any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Sincerely
Ronal Stubblefield

THAXTON  Christy Jordan-Frank  11 Mar 1997

I am looking for information on a Rev. War veteran named James THAXTON. He drew land in a lottery on 3 February, 1804 as a resident of Oglethorpe County. He is also found in the tax records of Oglethorpe County for the years: 1805, 1810, and 1815. Sometime before 1827 he settled in Greene County (and is buried there), and appears in the 1830 census as a resident of Greene County, aged 60-70 at that time. I am not clear if his status as a resident of Greene County implies an actual physical move, or if county boundary changes between Oglethorpe and Greene make it appear that way.

It appears he had a son named James THAXTON, Jr., also of Greene County, and perhaps another son (Simeon THAXTON), but I am unaware of his spouse's name and of any other children. I aim to clarify James THAXTON's relationship to other Virginia THAXTONs who settled in Georgia, namely Charles THAXTON, Yelverton THAXTON, and Thomas THAXTON, all brothers, and sons of William and Lucy (CLAY) THAXTON. Any information anyone can share would be most appreciated.

Thanks.
Christy Jordan-Frank

THAXTON  Christy Jordan-Frank  2 Feb 1997

I am looking for information on a Rev. War vet named James THAXTON. He drew land in a lottery on 3 February 1804 as a resident of Oglethorpe County. He is also found in the tax records of Oglethorpe County for the years: 1805, 1810, and 1815. I think he "settled" in neighboring Greene County, but am not clear if this was an actual physical move to another location, or if county boundary changes makes it appear that way. Any info. anyone can share would be most appreciated. Thanks.

TOLBERT  Jane Tolbert Kinzle  29 Mar 1997

Has anyone seen the name: TOLBERT, Tapley B. in Oglethorpe County, Georgia? Tapley B. married Sarah (nee) TOLBERT 9 December 1824 Clarke County. He was apparently on the 1830 census for Oglethorpe County, Georgia living at #113. Anyone access to this census willing to check this out. Others TOLBERT's living same vicinity on same census: Ozobn and Rollen at #112, James #109, Miles #098, William #106. This info was passed on to me from someone's cd but I feel that "maybe" they were not in Oglethorpe in 1830. Trying to confirm this.

I have WEAVER and PYE ancestors circa 1800-1834 in Oglethorpe. They had land on Millstone Creek (400 acres), Macks Creek (118 acres) and Broad River (300 acres). I know that they had slaves. Can you tell me if that is cotton country or what other crop they might have grown in that area? I don't know if that part of Georgia was plantations or what. If you know, please let me know. WILSON, RAY  Donna  30 Dec 1996

Am seeking anyone researching the WILSON family who lived in Oglethorpe County, Georgia at least through 1804. James WILSON was a Millstone Creek neighbor of William and Mary RAY, fomerly of Amherst County, Virginia, in 1798. This James WILSON may have been the same James who married Margaret BOWLER 6 December 1786 in Amherst County.

January 6, 1804 Moses RAY married Polly WILSON;
Mar 3, 1804 William RAY married Patty WILSON.

William RAY, a Revolutionary soldier, then moved to Franklin County, Georgia about 1820 where he died in 1833. Patty WILSON RAY then lived with her son, John/Jehu who became her guardian in 1855 in Union County, Georgia. Patty died in 1856 in Fannin County, Georgia.

Would love to touch base with anyone working on these families!

Donna in NC

Looking for the descendants of Richmond, Beaman, Euriah, and Lucinda WOOD(s); and Sarah Jane WOOD(s) RANSOM. They were born between 1810-1843. Their names, along with the names of several members of their families, are listed on the 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 Census for Penfield and White Plains, Georgia in Greene County. Several family members moved to Winterville, Georgia around 1890 or 1900. They may have been born in Oglethorpe, Hancock or Coweta County and may have moved to Greene County between 1855-1857.

WOODY  Phyllis  6 May 1997

I need the help of all you rooters out there. My ancestor Henry Talley WOODY showed up in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in 1803 and married Keziah JENNINGS daughter of Miles JENNINGS from Henry County, Virginia. Henry served in the War of 1812 and died in 1814. They named their only son Samuel Rockingham WOODY.

Are there any records from the War of 1812 that might tell where Henry came from?

Does anyone know of any Woody - Talley connections anywhere? Does anyone know of any Woody's in Rockingham County, NC, NH, VA, or VT? Is there any other significance that the name Rockingham might have?

Thanks for your help.
Phyllis
