Gravesites near the Collier- Howard House

The DAR erected a monument in 1932 and there was
a rededication in 2002.  Two other markers were placed there by a descendant of Vines in 2002.

The pictures of the Rededication were taken by Glen Collier of Nacogdoches.

Vaughn Ballard has given me credit for placing the markers at Vines Collier's gravesite as shown by the photographs.  This was a joint effort between me and Glen Collier of Nacogdoches, Texas and since we are publishing the information, I would like to see him receive credit for his participation.  Also, the dedication ceremony was arranged by me with the
gracious cooperation of Jack Howard, the current owner and occupant of the old Collier home. Mrs. Carolyn Bryant Faz, Regent, Kettle Creek Chapter, DAR presented the dedication.  Several others made important contributions but I think it important to give these proper credit.

With reference to the SAR Color Guard at our rededication ceremony, the guard was organized by Larry Duncan, Albany, Georgia, a descendant of Vines.  The Guard is composed of (L-R) Larry Duncan, Robert Turbyfill, Wilbur Maney and
Larry Wilson.

For your information, and as a matter of interest, the basis of most all Vines Collier's genealogy is the record that was compiled by Jena C. Collier of Lamar County, Georgia back in 1920s.  Through his research, the gravesite was determined and the marker was placed by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Stephens Collier in 1932.  I have a copy of the article on this event that was published in the Atlanta Constitution.
