 THE WETUMPKA HERALD Wetumpka, Elmore Co. AL. Oct 9, 1969 [Robert Winston] R.W. HUDDLESTON DIES AFTER EXTENDED ILLNESS: Robert Winston HUDDLESTON, a resident of Montgomery and a former resident of Wetumpka, d Fri in a Montgomery hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Huddleston was b Feb 27, 1900, the s/o late Dr. and Mrs. R. L. HUDDLESTON [Robert Lee] b 26 Feb 1864 Meriwether, GA, & Mattie Dee HOWARD b 17 Mar 1875 Coosa, AL. s/o Joseph Allen HUDDLESTON Oglethorpe, GA. & Martha Townsend HEAD b Jasper GA] of Speigner. He attended Barnes School for Boys in Montgomery; Marion Institute, and the Univ of AL., where he received a degree in law and was president of his class, later forming the law firm, Huddleston, Glover & Jones. He was elected Circuit Solicitor (District Attrny) for Elmore, Autauga and Chilton cos in 1923, and began serving as Solicitor for these three counties and served continuously through 1954, or for seven terms. On Dec 30, 1954, he was appointed supernumerary Circuit Solicitor by Governor Gordon PERSONS. He also served as special assistant Attorney General, serving under John PATTERSON, McDonald GALLION, and Richard FLOWERS. Huddleston received nationwide attention on several cases including the murder investigation of Albert of Phenix City. He was known throughout the Alabama bar as one of the most colorful attorneys of his day. He was a Mason, veteran, and a member of the St. James Methodist Church of Montgomery. Survivors include his wid, Mrs. Annette R. HUDDLESTON, Montgomery, a son, Ted W. HUDDLESTON, Montgomery; a daughter, Mrs. Annie KING, Anniston; a sis, Mrs. Roberta BUTTERFIELD, Pascagoula, MS., and three grchildren, Everette KING, Paula KING, and Suzanne KING, Anniston.

 Lucy GRATTAN's father, John GRATTON, b Shenandoah Valley VA and was a bro of my husb's grgrgrfather, Robert GRATTAN, Jr. Robert GRATTAN, Sr. md to Elizabeth Thornton GILMER a sis of Lucy's grfather, Thomas Meriwether GILMER, of Broad River, Oglethorpe Co. GA. I have family records that say John Grattan, b 1812 & d. 1869 (or1861? You say 1861 and if that is the DAR record, I guess it is correct. I'd like to see the gravestone or will.), was a medical doctor who moved to Columbus MS with his wife, Martha Ann GILMER. There they had 3 children,  and when John d 1869 (or 1861?), Martha Ann Gilmer GRATTAN moved to Montgomery Co. AL with her 3 children to be nr her father, Peachy Ridgway GILMER, who lived there with his second wife. I understand the 3 children were named Peachy Ridgway GRATTON who d unmd; Lucy GRATTAN md F. H. MERRITT (one record says his name was Meriwether); Lucy d (I suppose w/o issue) and Mr. Merritt  md her sis, Frannie, who prob was Frances

He was a Magistrate of Albemarle Co. VA, 1783. Signed the Renunciation of allegiance to Great Britain, 21 apr,1779; the original of which is preserved in the Historical Soc, of Richmond, VA. His will was signed 7 Mar 1816; prob. Oglethorpe Co. GA Sep 1816; Witx. Charles L. MATTHEWS, Thomas WILEY, Valentine MERIWETHER.
James Marks lived on a farm consisting of 800A, nr Keswick Depot, Albemarle Co. VA and likely including it. Emigrated with his family to p. 4; "James MARKS, b 1745, of Georgia, md Elizabeth Harvie." Ch:
