B: 1752 in Chesterfield County, Va

PARENTS:
Joel Cheatham (b: 1731)and Elizabeth Gattes (b:1730) of Chesterfield County, Va.

GRANDPARENTS:

Thomas Cheatham, Jr. s/o Thomas Cheatham, Sr.

Joel was a brother to Thomas Cheatham III who was the father of Josiah
Cheatham that married Amelia Clarke Lester

EPPES CHEATHAM married Sarah Chaffin of Charlotte County, Va.

Joel and EPPES CHEATHAM on 1782 list of tithables for Charlotte County,
Va.

EPPES CHEATHAM  had sons named:
Josiah Cheatham
Joel Cheatham

EPPES CHEATHAM  bought land in Wilkes(later became Oglethorpe county)
County, Ga. in 1792 & 1794

Many of this group of Cheatham’s changed the spelling of their name to
CHATHAM and moved to Henry County, Ga.

Joel Chatham and Josiah Chatham (son of Eppes) were members of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Henry County, Ga. at the same time Amelia Garrott Elkins Carter was a member.

MIGRATIONS OF THIS GROUP OF CHEATHAM’S:

Some Va. to N.C. to GA.

Some VA, N.C., S.C.

Some VA, N.C., KY

All I have found so far.

According to a family history on ancestry.com Eppes Cheatham later moved to Franklin County, Ga (very near Madison and Oglethorpe) and died there in 1816 I have checked the county sites for:
Madison County, Ga
Franklin County, Ga
Oglethorpe County, Ga
Clarke County, Ga
Wilkes County, Ga.

VIRGINIA COUNTIES:
Chesterfield
Henrico
Henry
Charlotte
Lunenburg( have not finished the search here)

I also found where some of the Chastain family moved to Madison County, Ga From Virginia. This is the same family of Chastain’s that were related to Elizabeth Amonett that married John Garrott in Chesterfield County, Va.
