Nancy Griffith I am interested in any information on Grief WILLIAMS (wife Emilla), born SC c. 1814, who was in Georgia, and possibly Murray county, from 1834-1847. He later settled in Arkansas.


Susan Marshall I found ancestors on the 1850 Census in Murray County GA. Isaac N. BUCKNER age 26 M Farmer born in TN Sarah A. age 20 F TN Emily J age 3 F GA Thomas O(?) age 1 M GA Isaac N. BUCKNER married Sarah Ann SMITH in Murray County, 63rd sub-division, GA on 18 OCT 1845 Emily (EMMA) BUCKNER was my great grandmother. She married Robert P. Bush in Gordon County GA on October 7, 1869. Emma's death certificate indicated that her parents had gone to TX.
Selida I am looking for information on Daniel MASHBURN born about 1808 in NC. married: Mary (?) also born in NC around 1816. They had the following children in NC: Cynthia Ann, Elizabeth, Henry Jefferson. Daniel moved his family to TN in the 1840s. The children born in TN were Richard, Lucinda, Matilda, Laura, John and David. Sometime in the 1870s, Daniel and some of his children moved to Murray County, GA.

Darrell Ertzberger Looking for information (especially place of burial) for James J D SMITH, b 2 Feb 1861 in Franklin Co, GA, d 21 Feb 1916 in Chatsworth, Murray Co. Married first to Dicy C (?), who died 27 MAR 1902 in Chatsworth. Family appears on 1900 census in Gordon Co, but apparently moved to Chatsworth soon after. James SMITH owned livery stable in Chatsworth and ran it with his eldest son William H SMITH. James remarried to Mollie HENDRICK in 1903. James and Dicy SMITH had 9 children: Isabella M (b 1880), William H (b 1881), Emory S (b1882), Lula (b 1885), Maude M ( b 1886), Clevis B (b 1889), Callie L (b 1891), Carl E (b 1894), and Harrison Samuel (b 1897). Would very much like any information on these children and their descendants. Willing to share extensive information on this SMITH family from Franklin Co.

Jean I am searching for the John LANCASTER family listed in Murray County 1850. John claims to be 70 and his wife Elizabeth 44. Both were from SC. They had several children. John is believed to had a son by the name of L. Lanson Lancaster who married Narisa Green, the daughter of James N. Green from VA to SC to GA.

John A. Campbell Researching Thompson VANN b. 1883, s.o. John VANN possibly of Murray County. In 1900 Tennessee census, Thompson is living in Tennessee in what is now Hamilton County. John was born about 1855 and died about 1889 in a sawmill explosion, and is buried in Murray Co. John married "Sallie" Sarah P. WATERS, (b.c. 1856), in 1878 in Murray Co. After John's death she later married J. V. TEEMS. John and Sallie's children include a daughter, Magnolia, (b. 1880) who is buried in Murray Co. Their son, Benjamin Dennis ELLISON (1883-1941) was born in Murray Co. and married Isadora "Dora" MANIS (1886-1948) who was the daughter of Owen H. David N. Strickland John STRICKLAND married Margaret LAND 11/10/1844 in Murray CO GA. Moved to Marshall CO AL by 1850 and Washington CO ARK in 1854. Said to have been a scout on the Trail of Tears. Not proven. Brothers William STRICKLAND and Alexander STRICKLAND also married 1840's in Murray CO. John b. @ 1822 S.C. died 1861-62 Ft. Smith Ark. Parents born in S.C. @ 1800. Father possibly William Henry STRICKLAND. parents probably died before 1850 census. Not in 1840 Murray CO Census.
David N. Strickland Joseph LAND and family were in the 1840 Murray County Census. He was born 1799 in Pendleton Dist, S.C. and died 1875 in Comanche County TX. Children - Nancy m. Jesse Jones, Margaret m. John Strickland, Joseph Alexander - a frontier minister in OK.
Madeline Brown I am seeking information on my grandfather, Samuel Howard Jarret, born abt. 1892 in either Whitfield or Murray Co. I know he lived in Murray County because my mother was born in Crandall / Fairy (Murray Co)in 1923/24. Samuel was the son of Matthew Jarret and a lady whose last name is known only as "Sams". I am told that Samuel Howard Jarrett died abt. 1938 and he is buried at Sixes Cemetery in Canton, GA. Kathy I am trying to gather information on my great grandfather, Paul Franklin Callahan, b. 11-22-1878 in Cartersville, Ga. There is a possiblity that the family may have been in Murray Co. at one time. His mother was Cynthia Bradford Callahan. I do not know his father's name. However, he may have been a blacksmith and possibly a bugler in the Civil War.

Lynne Gray In the 1850 Murray Co census, I have a John MATTAX, 70, b. NC with the following family members. Mary 55, Lorenzo 23, John 19, HARDAGE 16, Laomi 11, and James 12. I also found a HARDY MATTAX, 72, b. SC with wife Elizabeth, 62, and John, 18, and the 1850 Morgan Co Ga. census. Iam looking for SARAH E. MATTAX. In her orbituary in 1910, I find the following information. Married in 1834 Morgan Co to Milton Howard Reeder, has brother HARDY MATTAX still living in 1910 in Oklahoma, and a sister C.F.(MATTAX)KERR, still living in LeDill Tenn. Talmage L. Bartlett, Jr. I am looking any for information on John Jordan BARTLETT(BARTLETTE) and his wife, Hester PEPPER, who he married abt 1838 in MURRAY CO., GA. Any info. on Hester's family would be heartily welcomed. Her father was Tilley PEPPER and her mother was Sarah, last name unknown. All these people are listed in the 1850 census for MURRAY CO. Family verbal history indicates that Tilley and/or his wife Sarah were all or part Indian, probably Cherokee. We think that Tilley was a baliff in MURRAY CO. in 1850.
Jackie Please tell me - Did the boundry between Murray Co, GA and Tennessee change back and forth between 1837 and 1843. I have a gg grandfather born in Murray co, GA, December 7, 1840 and yet other children are said to have been born in Tennessee and saying that mine was also born in Tennessee. The only thing I can come up with is that the area he was born in kept changing with the boundary. Do you thing this is what happened? He was John C. Hendrix born to Abraham Hendrix.

Patricia Evans Looking for information on the family of JAMES MILLER (b. 1825 SC) married SARAH HALL (daughter of WILLIAM HALL and SABRA PETERSON). James had brothers: JOSEPH MILLER (b. 1827 SC) married Nancy?, JACKSON MILLER (b. 1829 SC) killed during the Civil War, married Sally ?, THOMAS RUSSELL MILLER (b. 1831 SC, died 6 Oct. 1889 GA) married MARY DAVIS. These men had a cousin, BENJAMIN F. MILLER (b. 1829 SC) married MARTHA S. PITTMAN. This man was a physician and fought for the Union during the Civil War. All the above were in the 1850 Murray County, GA census. Need parents and any other information--will be much appreciated.
Bill Stewart I'm looking for information about my great grandfather, George Washington Lafayette PRATHER and his wife Hannah F. SPANN, who were married 22 Oct. 1846 in Murray County, Georgia. Their children were, Thomas O., Robert Forson, Nancy L., Lucy, and Amanda. G. W. L. PRATHER was born in Washington Dist., Pendleton County (becoming Pickens Co.) South Carolina on Mar. 3, 1826. According to information, Thomas PRATHER, his son, on his application to the state of Texas for Confederate Pension, showed they lived near Varnell station, Murray County, GA when he enlisted on about March 1, 1864. He moved to Texas at an unknown time and lived in Texas at various places until his death in the Texas State Confederate Home on April 16, 1929. Contrary to my earlier research, all of his children were apparently born in the same location. Particularly I would like to confirm this and any other particulars that you may be able to locate.

Wayne M. Tippens I am researching my 3rd great grand-parents Isaac SHELTON born 4/13/1832 NC and Sarah Jane ALLRED born 11/26/1838 GA. Both are buried at Mount Zion Methodist Church just south of Chatsworth on SR 411. Family tradition has it they lived within walking distance of Mount Zion in a fine home. They were in Pickens Co. in 1860 & 1870. By 1880 they had moved to Murrah Co. There children include Cinthia 1856, Mary A. 1858, Ellen 1861, John W. 1863, Elias Davenport 1869, and Samuel M. 1879. Ronnie Ellis I'm looking for any information on Mahala or Mahaley PHILLIPS. She is listed as Mahaley PHILLIPS, living with John M ELLIS and family in the 1860 Murray County census. It shows her from Tennessee and her age at 18. In the 1870 Census, she is shown at the next residence (or at least the next listing) with a 6 year old son, John and a two year old, Robert A, both born in GA. Her age on this census is listed as 25. In the 1880 census, the next listing after John's widow and daughter is my 16 year old gggrandfather, John W. ELLIS and his wife. Does anyone have additional info on Mahala or any PHILLIPS family in Murray Co? Was she a relative of ELLIS or his wife, or employed by them? I'm looking for marriage, birth, or death records for my paternal grandmother's parents. Their names are Carl Jones and Mary Ellen Fortner. They lived in Spring Place, but I believe she came from around Eton. They would have been married in the 1880s I believe. In the Murray County Heritage book on page 160, Bayles DONALDSON is listed as a trustee of the Methodist Campground of Ebenezer Church and his picture is on that page. He is my ggggrandfather. Dick married Lucia WYATT. Wilson married Margaret DANTZLER in Dalton, GA in 1854. Wiley married Amanda KIMERY in 1866. Clarissa m James MOORE. Joab m Mary EVANS. Columbus m Alice EVANS. Newt m Georgia Clementine. Newt is my gggrandfather. Surely out of all of these people who married in Murray Co, GA, there would be some descendants still there. Many moved on to Alabama. I am seeking information on George W FOSTER b May 1 1861 died Mar 31 1919 and his wife Senah WATSON b Dec 21 1859 died 1946. Both are buried at Mt Zion Methodist Church near Ramhurst. Mamaw I am searching for the parents of my GGrandfather Leonard Nelson TINSLEY, born Dec 6, 1829, supposedly in South Carolina, He married Nancy Jane MAY on June 2, 1850 in Murray County, Georgia. Leonard and Nancy were in Whitfield County, Georgia in the 1860,1870 and 1880 census records. He died in Dalton, Georgia Feb 1, 1892.

WALDROUP/WALDROPE/WALDROP/WALDRUP etc...... We spell it Waldroup. I am researching the Waldroup family. They moved around the NW Georgia area. They resided in Gilmer co, Gordon co, Murray co, Whitfield co. In the 1860 census, Loran Waldroup was residing with the family of Dean W. Chase. Just down the road lived Isaac Moore. His daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Moore married Loran A Waldroup. Their children are: Sarah J (Josie) b. 1861, James Isaac Waldroup b. 1867, Alonzo D. Waldroup b. 1870, Minnie Waldroup b. 1874 and possibly Laura L. Waldroup b. 1889. I am looking for the father of Loran Waldroup. Might possibly be Cain Waldrope. I am looking for info on a man named C.D. EPPS. I have recently acquired a series of letters written by him during the Civil War to his wife Cathern(sic). I was told his name was Commodore D. Epps and that he was wounded in the war and eventually died. His letters appear to reference four children. I have not fully transcirbed the letters yet but I am willing to share whatever I find. There are more references to other names. I got the letters in Chatsworth, Murray County and was told that he and his wife are buried in or near there. Any help or references would be appreciated. Searching for WACASTER Decendants. 1. GEORGE I WACASTER. George and wife Rebecca Rudisll moved to Spring Place, Murray Co. Ga.. in 1837. children WILLIAM HENRY (1839-1914) DAVID BAXTER WACASTER (1842-1922) This family went by the spelling WACASER. GEORGE died in Spring Place on January 11, 1846 and is supposed to be buried in the City Cemetery. GEORGE and his family lived in the Vann House I understand that this house is now been restored and is open to the public. GEORGE'S oldest son, GEORGE WASHINGTON WASCASTER, moved back to Lincoln Co., NC by 1850. Would like more information on all the above and the Vann House. I am researching my ggg-grandfather and related families of Murray Co., Ga. William MAY was born abt. 1823 in Tennessee. He moved with his family to Murray Co were on August 10, 1842 he married Nancy MEREDITH, the daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth MEREDITH of N.C. This union produced 3 children Nathan Lafayette MAY b. August 8, 1843, Joseph MAY b. May 1846, & Elizabeth MAY b. May 1848. Nancy MEREDITH MAY died between 1848-1850 in Murray County. William MAY married again in Murray County on January 26, 1851 to Barbery N. BATES. This union produced 2 offspring Ann MAY b. 1852, & John MAY b. 1855. By 1860 the family had migrated North a couple of counties to Coffee County, Tennessee. I lose William and Barbery MAY from this point on.
