How to Find the Cemetery

wpe201.jpg (61690 bytes)From downtown Colbert at the traffic light, head west on Hwy 72. Turn right onto Diamond Hill-Colbert Rd. (DHCR). Continue on this road for about two miles. Once you go down a steep grade and start back up the hill, you will pass the entrance to Brushy Creek subdivision on the right, then Sorrow Patterson Rd. on the left. The next road on the right is Moriah Church Rd. (CR 223). You will see a large white sign pointing toward the church. Turn here and follow the road to the church. It will be on the right in a grove of trees where the paving ends and turns to dirt. You will need to park in the drive or on the shoulder. The gate is locked when church is not in session. (Note: The Moriah Church Rd. is badly maintained. Be careful of pot holes on the edges of the road, but please be sure to travel to the right side of the road in blind spots of hills, etc. to avoid oncoming traffic.) From Athens going North or Danielsville going South on Hwy 29, turn onto DHCR in the Diamond Hill community. From Athens you will turn right onto DHCR just past the ball field on the left. From Danielsville, watch for Moons Grove Road on the right. Turn left at the first road on your left. This cuts through to the DHCR. Turn left onto DHCR. Moriah Church Road will be the second turn to your left, the first being the dirt section of Jones Matthews Rd.

ABANDONED GRAVES 1 - 7
These are old graves that were marked only with stones and have been reclaimed by nature. The photographs are to lead those interested in examining the area closer to their locations. The headstone to the lower left is the stone described in Unidentified grave 4. There is evidence of a path into the woods. Abandoned graves can be seen to the right up the hill, straight ahead and to the left. For those interested in hunting, plotting or researching these graves, you should enter the stand of trees with all due caution!!! You should be very careful about where and how you step. It would always be best to have a search compainon with you in areas such as these.
