Directions

Lystra Cemetery is in GMD 1616 at just about the point where GMD 438, 205 & 204 intersect.

From Danielsville, go East on Hwy 98. Turn onto Hwy 191 into the Meadow Community. Once you pass Meadow Baptist Church, turn right onto the first road to the right which is Transco Rd. Take an immediate right onto Lystra Church Rd. (CR 350) The cemetery will be a little more than a mile down the road on the left side.

From Comer or Colbert, Hwy 98 or 172 to Gholston. Continue on Hwy 172 to the east. Watch for Lystra Church Rd. after about a mile or so on the left. Turn here, and the cemetery will be about 1.0 mi. on the right. There is parking on the side of the road, and inside the gate when it is open.

When visiting, please bring a companion. This is an isolated area, and there are many holes and broken stones to trip on or to turn an ankle. Also, be careful of fire ants in warmer weather.

On a personal note, this grave yard, and others like it where grave after grave has been vandalized, is one of the reasons I started working with the Tombstone Project. A good number of my mother's family is buried here, and there are only a few of their tombstones that are left in tact or in shape that they can be reset. By photographing old cemeteries for the GenWeb Projects, we are preserving what is left of some of our families' history.
