Arthur W. Smith, 73, of 113 12th St., Barnesville, transitioned on
Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the Upson Regional Medical Center.
Arthur Smith married his high school sweetheart Essie Jacobs and to this union two children were born, David and Pamela. Funeral
services were held at noon Thursday, April 25, 2013 in the
White’s Chapel CME Church. Pastor Randy King was assisted by

Mr.
Eugene Speer,of Milner passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013 at his
residence. He was born Oct. 14, 1932 in Shady Dale. Mr. Speer retired from Sherwin-Williams paint store as a credit manager. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Born in Crawford County, Ga., to the late James Edward and Emmie Manning Jones, she grew up in the middle Georgia area. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James William Sims Sr., two infant sons and seven siblings. Mrs. Sims was a faithful member of Silvertown Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 42 years and joyfully sang in the Happy Hearts Choir. She was employed by Aldora Mills in Barnesville, Ga., for more than 20 years and lastly worked for Belk’s department store in Thomaston, Ga., prior to retirement. She is survived by her children James Sims Jr. (Faye), David Sims (Sandy), Randy Sims (Joann) all of Barnesville, Ga., Dale Seda (Kike) of Smiths Station, Ala., Judy Duncan (Bob) of Thomaston, Ga., and Charlotte Bair (David) of Manning, S.C. Also left to cherish memories of her are grandchildren, Kent York (Donna), Kevin York (Connie), both of Griffin Ga, Pam Glassco (Scot) of Carrollton, Ga., Karla Brown (Dale) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Dean Sims (Tammy) of Midland, Ga., Jason Sims (Dawn) of Fayetteville, Ga., Steven Sims (Teresa) of Ft. Mr.
William James Rooks, of Barnesville passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 in
a Barnesville healthcare facility. A native of LaGrange, he
was the son of the late Mr. Ernest Floyd Rooks and the late
Mrs. Alice Geneva Turner Rooks. Mr. Rooks retired from Central Georgia
Railroad as a signal maintainer and also retired from the
bleachery at the William Carter Company. He was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Barnesville.
Survivors include four sons, Floyd (and Billy) Rooks of Oglethorpe, Richard (and Gail) Rooks of Barnesville, Neil (and Josie) Rooks of Barnesville and Wade Rooks of Yatesville. Mr.
John Harper, age 95, of Barnesville passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014
in a Thomaston healthcare facility.
Mr. Harper
was born Jan. 24, 1918 to the late Mr. John Tildon Harper and the
late Mrs. Mamie Ophelia Martin Harper. He is also preceded
in death by his wife, Mrs. Edith Marie Meeks Harper.
He retired as an
aircraft mechanic from Robins Air Force Base and was a retired
corrections officer from Upson County.
Survivors include his three daughters, Betty Jean Harper Blackston of Thomaston, Mary Ann Harper Brown (and William Darryl) of Thomaston and Sarah Louise Harper Mathews (and Bobby Julius) of Barnesville; one son, John T. at a Macon healthcare facility. She was born May 14, 1935 in

Rachel Claudine Drake Dingler. She was a member of the Sha-Arey
Synagogue.
Viola
was a very special lady, wife, mother and friend with many talents. She
was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Idle Hour Country Club
and a member of the Mid-Georgia Gem and Mineral Society. She had a love
for art, golf, Mother Nature and life.

Mildred Moore Jackson, of Barnesville passed away Wednesday, April 2,
2014 at her home.She was born Feb. 26, 1935 in Barnesville, daughter
of the late Donovan and Sara Mann Moore. She was a member of
Emmanuel Baptist Church, having formerly sang in the choir, taught
Sunday school and served in the nursery.

Clarence B. Cole, 80, of Meansville passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014
at Spalding Regional Hospital.
He was born
Sept. 1, 1933 in Decatur, son of the late John Robert Jr. and Annie
Lou Greene Cole. Mr. Cole was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Barnesville and the Pinta Lodge 88 F&AM Masons. He retired
from the Southland Casket Company and was self-employed in the
dairy and poultry industry. Mr. Cole was an avid reader of Western
books.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anita C. Cole of Meansville; daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Gary Carlock of Acworth; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Becky Cole of Tahlequah, Okla.; grandson, Adam Carlock of Acworth; granddaughter, Rylee Cole of Tahlequah, Okla.; brother, Charles Edward Cole of Thomaston; brother-in-law, Marion Beaver of Powder Springs; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Otis "Marvin" Littleton, Jr., of Barnesville passed away on Monday,
March 3, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Littleton was born June 4,1930 to the late Mr.
Otis Marvin Littleton Sr. and the late Bernice Trice Littleton.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Mae Grant
Littleton.
Mr.
Littleton retired from Kresge Company, which is a warehousing
division of Kmart, and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army.

Mrs.
Frances Wilson Ruffin, of Barnesville, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at
Upson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Ruffin was born in 1929 in Bonaire, Ga., to
the late Lois and Lane Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her
husband of 60 years, Bobby Ruffin. Mrs. Ruffin joined Antioch Baptist Church in
1947 and was a devoted member throughout her lifetime. She
worked in the textile industry for many years and took great pride in
making baby garments.
Mrs. Ruffin and her late husband were farmers and gardeners. Each year they planted a large field of sunflowers and zinnias for the community to enjoy. She also had a passion for cooking and was famous among her family and friends for her caramel cakes and pecan pies. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ruffin and Jeanie Travis; her son-in-law, Andy Travis, whom she loved as a son; and her adored granddaughter Addie Travis. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Barlow of Barnesville and Margaret Denney of Ellijay; brother Wade (Mabel) Wilson of Barnesville; sisters-in-law Dot (Fred) Mulling of Yatesville, Martha Rodgers of Zebulon and Pat Wilson of Raleigh, N.C.; and brothers-in-law Ed Evans of Barnesville, Johnny Ruffin of Yatesville and Freeman Alsobrooks of Peachtree City. Robert Edwin Hambrick Jr., of Barnesville passed away on Sunday, March
30, 2014 in a Macon healthcare facility.
Mr.
Hambrick was born in Griffin
to the late Mr. Robert Edwin Hambrick Sr. and the late Mrs. Emma
Pulliam Hambrick. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict,
a member and former Sunday school teacher at Antioch Baptist Church, he
was retired from the Georgia
Department of Transportation as an engineering auditor and a former teacher and
principal in Upson County. Mr. Hambrick also received an
associate’s degree from Gordon Military College.

Frances Beatrice Cole McCollough, of Barnesville passed away Friday,
April 11, 2014 in a Spalding County healthcare facility. She was the daughter of the late Mr.
Joseph Reece Cole and the late Mrs. Willie Lena Ross Cole;
and was also preceded in death by her husband, the late Mr. Herbert
McCollough. Mrs. McCollough was retired from the William Carter
Company outlet store after 58 years and seven months of service and

Mrs. Gladys Marie
Callaway Turner, of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in a
Spalding County Healthcare Facility. A native of Bolingbroke in Monroe
County, born,May 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Mr. William
AltonCallaway and the
late Mrs. Virginia Marie Walker Callaway.
She was the widow of Mr. Mark E. Turner, and was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Bertha English of Milner, by a brother, Mr. Charles A. Callaway of Barnesville, and by two nephews, John Robert English and James Larry English, both of Milner. Mrs. Turner was a Home Maker and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Milner. Survivors include: 2 Sisters: Mrs. Dorothy E. Loyd of Conley & Mrs. Carolyn C. Crawford of Hampton ; 3 Brothers: Mr. William Paul Callaway of Milner, Mr. Harold Franklin Callaway of Zellwood, FL, & Mr. Benjamin Claude Callaway of Thomaston ; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Mrs. Imogene Betty Ayer, of
Barnesville passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in a Barnesville
Healthcare Facility. Mrs. Ayer was a life long resident of Barnesville.
She was a supervisor for the William Carter Company and was also a
member of the First Baptist church of Barnesville. Mrs. Ayer was born
May 24, 1924 in Lamar Co., Ga.
She preceded in death by her Parents, Mr. Greval Herman and Mrs. Lucille Sanderlin Herman, her Husband, Mr. Cliff Ayer and a Son, Mr. Jerry Ayer. Barron Gulledge, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at
Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, Davidson Co. Tennessee. He was
born January 7, 1928 in Lamar County, GA.
Ezra
was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Warren and Mattie
Lizzie Ferguson Gulledge; His wife, Ona Louise Bettis Gulledge; son, Larry Gulledge;
daughter, Brenda Huggins; four brothers and three sisters.
Mr.
Gulledge was retired from Civil Service where he was a waste water
supervisor. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a Baptist.
Survivors
include his sons, David T. Gulledge and Wayne B. Gulledge; daughter,
Jennifer G. Sanders; ten grandchildren and thirteen
great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Bevil
of Griffin, Ga. passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Brightmoor Nursing
Center. She was born June
28, 1913, in Rabun Co., Ga., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and
Ella Samantha Justus
Smith. She was a lifelong member of the Camp Creek Baptist
Church in Lakemont, Ga. She was a Charter Member of the Griffin Women
of the Moose where she served in various offices, and an active member
of the Griffin Women’s Bowling Association for many years and
former co-owner of the Green Top Café in Milner, Lamar Co., Ga.
Mrs.
Bevil was preceded in death by her husband, Jamie Willis Bevil, Sr. She
was the great-granddaughter
of the late Fannie Picklesmire Kirby Smith whose Pioneer Rabun Co., Ga.
family dates from the 1700’s.
Survivors
include sister-in-law, Mrs. Jim Tyus of Milner; daughters and

as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A lifelong
resident of Lamar County,born Sept. 9, 1931. Mrs. Smith was

late Mrs. Della Mae Turner Smith. She was Retired as a
Seamstress, having formerly worked at The William Carter Company.
Mrs. Smith was a member of The Barnesville Revival Center.

2012 in an Upson County Healthcare Facility. A native of The Rock, Mr.
Blackmon was
born Aug. 24, 1922 in Upson Co., Ga.,
the son of the late Mr. Jesse Blackmon and the late Mrs.
Willie Mae Johnson Blackmon, and was also preceded in death by his
wife, Mrs. Annie Lee Bentley Blackmon, and by a son, Kerry
Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was Retired from the William Carter Company as a
Quality Control Inspector. He was a member of Antioch Baptist
Church.

Grady “Hilton” Cauthen, of Milner passed away on Wednesday,
March 30, 2011 in a Barnesville Healthcare Facility. Grady was born
Nov. 29, 1923 in Milner, Lamar Co., Ga.
He was
preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Mary Catherine Williams Cauthen.
Mr. Cauthen
was a self-employed Dairy Farmer and Construction worker. He was a
member of the Milner Baptist Church. Mr. Cauthen was a Veteran of
the U.S. Army, where he served in WWII and Vietnam, and was
awarded The Purple Heart, The Distinguished Unit Badge, and the Bronze
Arrowhead.

Mr. Kenneth
“Ken” Karl Green, of Barnesville passed away Saturday, June
28, 2014 at his residence. He was the son of Roxie and Melvin Peugh
of Barnesville and Clarence Sanders Green. Mr. Green
was a member of Midway Baptist Church, worked as a radio announcer
for WBAF and the Lamar County sheriff’s office and was
the voice of the Trojans for many years. He was also
the sports writer for The Herald Gazette at the time of his death.
Mr. Green loved football and was a big fan of Georgia Tech and the
Lamar County Trojans. He coached at John Milledge Academy and Monroe
Academy.
Survivors include his son, Ryan Green; and daughter, Megan Green, both of Barnesville; brothers, Timothy (Michelle) Peugh of Griffin and Christopher Peugh of Barnesville; and one sister, Jodie Peugh (Patrick) Harrell. He is also survived by three nephews and one niece. Memorial services for Mr. Kenneth Green will be conducted on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at New Life Baptist Church. Helen Rachel Haywood Parker, of Barnesville passed away Sunday, Feb. 8,
2015, at her home. Mrs. Parker was born Sept. 2, 1928 in
Spalding County, daughter of the late Frank and Jewel Underwood
Haywood. She lived in Barnesville all of her life and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Parker was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was
the pianist for more than 40 years. She was active in Sunday school and
worked in the nursery.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Roy Parker of Barnesville; son and daughter-in-law, Cary and Alice Parker of Macon; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Greg and Natasha Parker, granddaughter, Cindy Hatcher; great-grandchildren, Kayse Skinner, Nicholas Parker and Brooke Parker; a great-great grandson, Kamden Parker Adams; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Kenneth Parker; a great-grandson, James Rancin Hatcher; and her two sisters, Peggy Haywood Bishop and Frankie Haywood Burrell.
